I saw the show tonight and had the same question? Sounded pretty good. I was surprised to see as many shots of the steel as they had. |

I think he also was playing banjo, so maybe it was Pete Grant. Just a guess, since I don't know what he looks like. |

I tried to watch but I couldnt make it past the first ten minutes. "Dawg, you should consider a career in country music Dawg! That was slammin yo!"
ungh.......
I didnt realize that show even had live musicians. I assumed it was all canned. but I guess obviously I was wrong.
so did anyone actually sing a country song or was it all pop-country? |

Don't know but whatever Melinda sang, I liked and so did apparently the steel player. He seemed more into her number than any of the others. |

For a "country night," I was underwhelmed. The song selections were not very good (sorry...I don't think of Bonnie Raitt as "country") and most of the singers were having some serious pitch issues. Melinda and whoever the very first singer was did a pretty good job overall. I was listening to only bits and pieces of the show whilst my wife was actively watching it.....
I was impressed that the steeler was playing off of a chart....didn't appear to be a number chart either. |

As a whole in my view it was great to see the Steel player, excellent camera shots and exposure.
On the Music side, the band was extremely busy, they didn't really leave much room for the singer to sing. Guitars, keyboards, Fiddles, Banjo's all going at the same time...with Steel either on top or underneath..The arrangements were just WAY over the top for me...
But It sure was nice that they gave the Steel the airtime...fine player ..

I wonder if any of the contestants actually know what a steel guitar is I didnt get to see the episode, but some people I work with saw it and told me the steeler got some good coverage. Wish we could see more of it!

A few minutes into the show my 12 year old daughter yells from the living room "Daddy!! Pedal Steel!!!" I come in to hear the tale end of some singer or another. She calls me back several times. Finally at Melinda's mumber the steel really kicks in. We're both watching and my daughter asks me, "So? How do you like it?"
"I like this one; very good steel playing."
"Daddy! I mean the singer! How do you like the singer?!?"
"Oh: is someone singing?"
"Daddy!!!!!"
"Oh! You mean the person accompanying the steel player?"
At which point a projectile pillow struck me in the head.
