Just Out Of Reach - Joe Turner - Saluda, SC

Post by Bill Ferguson »

Here is a clip that is several years old that I recorded at the Southern Steel Guitar Convention in Saluda, SC. The sound is strictly through the camera mic, so you hear some room noise & talking. However, Joe is a Great player whom you should make plans to see and hear if you get the chance.

I saw Joe play at the NTSGA Jam last October,
great player and he is always helping others.
I never checked but does he have a CD
available?
Thanks Bill.

Joe is one of my favorites at the Saluda Show....and a heckuva nice guy too!

Look closely at his fretboard and notice the LED's that he has installed at the fretmarkers. Cool!

Fine playing, Joe.
I hear inspiration from the master Lloyd Green.
Kind regards,
Henning

Bill, that's a great track by Joe.....can you tell me what steel he is playing please? it's not one I've seen before from the Endplates, and I can't make out the name on the front. Thanks for all the clips you're putting on for us to see.

Micky. it's a Marlen Cab, And I think Joe did the undercarriage and changer himself. Charles Reece may have had a hand in the changer......

Not the best example of Joe's playing. But still very good. And how about his tone?..........bb

Thanks for the Info Bobby. There were a few Marlen steels imported to England in the 70's when Len Stadler was alive, but they had normal endplates from what I remember. Joe looked a little nervous on that clip. I used to be the same on a few steel conventions I played over here in England. Some players can do it no problem, but I sooner do my "Bit" on the bandstand as part of the unit, rather than be featured. Regards his tone.....great I thought :)
