I remember this one all too well. John was playing "Roly Poly" at a gazillion miles an hour, turned to me, and said,"take it." I dropped my pick...
One of the high points of getting involved with the Saluda show, has been getting the opportunity to pick with greats like John Hughey. It's truly an honor!

While I was in Atlanta, I was able to attend the Steel Show this past year (2006) and that is where I first listened to and met Bill. At the time, I had no idea who he was or how connected he is...but I did know one thing while listening to him for the first time, the guy can play...not only can he play, his tone is as good as anyone I've ever heard and I think some of the proof is Bill playing next to John (and several other well known steel players as well).
If your computer speakers are not up to par, trust me, Bill's tone and playing is as good as it gets. When you hear him live, you'll see what I'm talking about.
I think this also goes to show, there are truly talented people who play steel and good enough to play with any recording artist either on the road or even studio work. Just because a player dosen't live in Nashville dosen't mean a thing. There are players beyond good enough to make that scene if they wanted to and Bill is one of those guys.
There are a few more in the Atlanta area that get up to that bar too but I don't want to take away from this post for Bill. A super nice guy and a players player.
