David, that was before my time. My first trip there was in 1963, next in 1965 and back again in 1969 (about for days after the big hurricane Camile (s). Retired in 1971.

OOORAH, Been there done that. Near East to Far East, above the arctic circle to the jungles of where ever. I think my music helped me stay sane, but I have friends that will argue that point. Like to see the DI that said "And you, radio repair. In the rear with the gear, private". MACS/MASS/TAC. Got three kids serving in the USAF, all three close to 20 years, two of them girls. Off they go-- To anyone who has served or is serving, THANK YOU. You have done or are doing a good thing. And I for one am proud to call you friend. Be safe my friend. DS

Okay guys I had the off, and didn't have much to do, so I took a count. As best as I can tell the current count is:

55 - Army

27 - Air Force

19 - Navy

8 - Marines

I would hope that all current, and prior service members would muster up here, I would also like to know how many were playing steel during your service time, and if so how in the heck did ya'll carry all your gear from one post to another without it getting torn apart.

Mark Edwards- I was not lucky enough to keep my steel with me, so it stayed at my Sister's house in Ohio.

I never played my steel from 1942 to 1945 in the army but when I heard the songs of those times, I pictured in my head how they would play on my steel.
When I got discharged, I joined the union and in two weeks ,got a gig , and was on the road again playing my steel. Oh Happy day....al
