Carter Steel Guitars

Sorry I did not mean to slam a Carter Steel. I am new so please forgive my ignorant comment. Someone told me to stay away from Carter Steel Guitars so I was just saying what he told me. Thanks for all your input on my Williams I will stay with it. If I offended anybody who owns a Carter I apoligize.

A lot of top pros including Tommy White play Carters, Tommy has played his many times on the Grand Ol Opry and there's no better than Tommy and his tone on his Carter (as well as his other guitars) is as good as it gets. The rest of us would be lucky to play and sound half as good.

Jim, why are you so offended because someone doesn't like a particular brand of guitar? Are you the steel guitar police? I play ZB's. I've had friends of mine call them "rattle traps". Every one is entitled to their opinion, and beauty is in the beholder. Just because Roger doesn't like Carters doen't make him a bad guy.

Why are you so interested in what I think? Are you the thought police?

First, I don't care what anyone likes or doesn't like. That wasn't the point. It was obvious from his post that he doesn't even know what he likes or doesn't like. That and then to say "I don't want to hear about Carter", is not the same as not liking a particular brand. I also didn't say he was a bad guy. A beginner, and he's learning. Roger, welcome to the world of steel guitar. With a Williams Steel and a Nashville 112 amplifier, you are well set to start your journey into massive frustration for a bit. Learning steel guitar is a process, a long one for some and short for others. You'll receive advice from all corners of the globe, some good, some bad.

There really is nothing wrong with Carter guitars. They are well made, sound good and are reasonable in price. Some folks like them and some don't. Some play them real well and others sound like chickens pecking on a tin roof. But that's mostly attributed to the player's ability, and not the instrument.

The statement you made in the previous post "Any suggestions would be appreciated please do not mention a Carter" shouldn't have lit anyone's flaming torch, but I guess it did.

Don't worry about it. Just get you some good instruction and wade into this mess as deep as you can. You'll become frustrated at first because it won't gell for a bit, but perserverance and determination will finally bring you to the biggest fulfillment of pleasure you'll experience except maybe marriage and the arrival of your first born.

No squabbles ever really accomplishes anything. Have at it.

Really Fred? Do you really think that putting any brand name in that sentence wouldn't get people saying, "what the --- ?".

Is it possible whoever slammed Carters to Roger was referring to the Carter Starter as opposed to a pro guitar?

-awesome..hehe. I tried to find a picture of a cop in uniform playing the steel but could not. I beleive one of our forum members is actually a cop, sorry cannot remember who just now, be he is the real steel guitar police...haha. Steelers sure are sensitive about their guitars. I learned early on not to post anything derisive about anything or anyone on this forum unless your ready for the flames. I made some ignorant comments when I first came here, hopefully I am less ignorant now..but I was forgiven or forgotten at least ...hehe. carter takes more beef here than any other maker. I am told their pro guitars are amongst the very best made. I think they take alot of heat because of some peoples negative association with the Starter, which is a shame because that guitar is really a service to the community in that it allows people who would otherwise not be able to afford to take up the instrument the chance to try it. Chin up
Roger, you are forgiven. Chin up Carter those who play your guitars love them very much it seems. Live and learn, no biggie

No kidding. I'm flamed for telling a beginner he shouldn't make statements about a guitar without more solid knowledge.... and I'm flamed for "flaming."

I guess some people think that anything that's not a pat on the back is flaming.

Roger made a comment that was based on his lack of experience. Someone one else told him to avoid Carter and therefore it is second hand info that he did not substantiate on his own.

Had he done so, he would have learned about Bud Carter who is so respected for his design of pedal guitars for so many years. Once you delve a little deeper in to Bud's designs used on the Carter instruments you have a better understanding of why they are made like they are. Their sucess in the steel guitar business and the numbers of Carter players speaks for itself.

I don't care for Japanese cars. That does not mean that they are not fine automobiles.

No offense taken. I assumed you were not interested in a Carter Starter because you already had a pro-level guitar. Bill Rudolph (along with many others) makes a fine steel and you should be happy with it until you get G.A.S. or just want a change of scenery.

Asking questions is the only way you'll find out about different opinions. Eventually, you may find that there are times you really can't believe anything you see, hear, or read.

If you are concerned about your tone, get Jeff Newman's Right Hand Alpha video course. It's the best bang for your buck for improving your tone.

By the way, the best steel is a (%$^%#%$^*(^%&]]. and the worst is a ?&(*>{|#$

You're wrong, John I've tried every brand of steel guitar I have had time to try since I started playing (3 days ago) and I now know for a fact that ?&(*>{|#$ is the only steel worth considering. The rest are garbage. But the steel guitar old boy network conspiracy will try to keep this guitar down, just like they always do.
