How old is vintage? My only guitar is a 35 year old MSA d-10 classic, still solid as a rock. |

Let's see '69 Sho-Bud Professional, '73 LDG and my new '68 ZB has been put into rotation. My LDG is the newest guitar I've ever played, I don't even know what a newer guitar feels like, probably a good thing. |

I play my 50's T-8 Stringmaster, my T-8 Wright Custom, or my 63 Shobud out all the time. No new guitars here. |

I suspect most if not all Vintage Steels and PP's have been rebuilt at one time or another.
Kinda like vintage cars.

So, Tony, is your point that if you are not using the dry and crusty original grease that came in the cross shaft holes, if you are relying on the compressed or stretched old springs, worn out Klusons, and if you prefer the original flocking that had oil stains, and you want the nicotine gunk removed from the metal parts, and you want new fretboards -- then you cannot have pride in the way a Red Belly Emmons was built?

Late model Fender 1000 here. And it's not been torn down and rebuilt, and doesn't need it either. Fender built them right.

From the responses so far, it seems almost everyone is playing on an old instrument. But I think you were asking about 30s-50s instruments, not 60s-80s.
So how many of you have a frying pan ? |

I frequently play and record with my late 1930's Rick Bakelite six string. On other occasions, I rely on my Emmons (1972) p/p. |

There are alot of folks who read these threads and I just think it is fair for them to understand that they may not be able to run out and buy that Wrap Around or an original LDG and take it to a gig that night.
I too am a fan of the old Vintage Instruments..and I love to see folks playing them. I have owned several and always have my eye out for a nice VINTAGE Steel.

I play a '76 Rus-ler that was built for Jeff Newman..it can be seen on one of his old record covers. He traded it to me for and old Tele.
Sounds great, built like a tank and is about as heavy..Chuck Back (Desert Rose) put in a George L pick-up and that's about all it needed.
Someday I will buy a D-10 but I'll not get rid of this one. |

I have an early '70's Sho Bud Professional and an '82 P/P Emmons. I've been playing the Sho Bud for over 30 years, bought it new in December of 1974. I bought the Emmons last year and have been gigging with it and using the Sho Bud as my practice guitar. Two classic steels with great tone. I am considering buying a new steel sometime, something light, but I will never sell the Bud or the Emmons. |

I have a 66 PP that lives at my church gigs every Sunday and Wednesday, an early 80s PP lives at my local Opry gig, but I take a Legrande III to most all the other gigs. |

1974 MSA D10 classic. According to the doctor it will long outlast me.
1960's Fender 400. According to my doctor it will long out last me. I went to another doctor for a second opinion. He said I was ugly.

Sho-Bud "the professional", bought in 1974.
Since 1984 rebuild from double to single neck. Upgrade from 3 to 4 pedals and from 2 to 4 kneelevers.

2 Buds... '72 6139, early 80's SuperPro, and a '74 Emmons D10.
I've also got a new D10, but I seem to always use the old ones. They've just got the mojo... |
