1968 video of Loretta Lynn singing "What Kind of a Fool Do You Think I Am." Looks like it was taken from "That Good Ole Nashville Music" or some program like that. Steeler is playing a Sho-Bud single-neck. Great tone !! Thanks. |

(Edit). Searched it out on YouTube: I don't know. Steel /is/ an older Sho-Bud D- or SD-something. Show looks some kind of variety show--stage is too big to be from one of those Nashville syndicated country series. [This message was edited by Ben Elder on 23 June 2006 at 09:51 PM.] |

Gary,
Can't tell w/o a link to the show. However,it could've been,either,Hal Rugg,(her "studio" steeler) or Bob Hempker.(her "road" steeler.)

Nice clip. Love the steel playing. Ask yourself seriously, is there anyone from those Idol shows that can sing this good?

So, who IS it in the second, "Coal Miner's Daughter" video...?
I watched it, but only in a tiny "window" on a borrowed computer and couldn't recognize the player, though it was cool that they had him right up front...[This message was edited by Pete Finney on 27 June 2006 at 07:52 AM.] |

Yes, that is indeed, where the steel player should be situated as a standard practice - not only in front, but several feet in front of everybody else! |

I'll have to plead guilty on this one. I remember doing the show. I believe it was '71. I can't remember why they set the stage the way they did with me down front. I was playing the old powder blue Emmons. John Lacey had the guitar, but I think he sold it.

Sorry, Guys I thought you were referring to the Johnny Cash Show on YouTube. That was me on that, but the '68 one, I don't know. Sorry for the mix-up. That certainly was Walter on the other show.

Listen to the end of "What kind of a girl". Sounds like the poor guy playin' steel thought they were gonna tag the ending.
He was sounding great! The rest of the band should have followed him! [This message was edited by Cody Campbell on 29 June 2006 at 08:59 PM.] [This message was edited by Cody Campbell on 02 July 2006 at 02:20 PM.] |

check out the playing on this sweet, beautiful version of "I still miss someone".

Excellent singing, along with great, very pronounced, instrumental fills by steel and fiddle.
Any guess who's playing steel?[This message was edited by Cody Campbell on 02 July 2006 at 02:20 PM.] |
