I understand that nominations are sometimes made by board members.
I am sure they have get togethers for other outstanding business like how and where to build a Hall of fame which does have a building fund or fund raising shows.
Not true. The board meets once a year.
Then again why are nominations never posted?
Why should they be? What purpose would it serve, other than stirring up jealousy among steel players?
Would it not be nice to let know in advance that your favorite steeler is being inducted? Would this not bring some who otherwise would not be going to St. Louis?
The annual SGHOF induction ceremony is the icing on the cake of the ISGC. It shouldn't be anyone's primary reason for going. Every ISGC show I've attended has been fantastic. I enjoy the surprise element of the awards. I'm sure that I'm not alone in that respect.
Is the very large Steel community considered smart enough to vote on who is qualified to be enshrined?
If you're proposing a "Steelers Choice" award, go for it! A lot of people like the idea, and I'm sure they would participate. What's stopping you?

B0b Lee why don't you have a sghof on the forum complete with trophy and all and let the steel guitar community pay 5.00 a vote to vote for whoever they want to and award it at a certain time and place each year. the forum would benefit from it to. whaduya think?

Steelers,

At this point, should I ask Bobbe if he knows whether or not somebody is going to nominate him? He deserves to go to the prom with a better date than I.

Please advise.

I have no interest in the awards business, Jimmie. I don't even watch awards shows on TV.

I was thinking that maybe this year, instead of a steel player, they could put a bathroom in the hall. It would be a lot more convenient and no controversey.

Although the board would still have to vote on the plaque....Men or Women..... Image

I think Bobbe should be in the Hall of Fame. He has done a lot for the support of the Steel Guitar in his many years. He will also bend over backwards to help a fellow Steel Guitarist. He inspired me in the 70's when I saw him play at the Western Room in Nashville. He was the first pro Steel Guitarist I listened to in person. I have been in awe of him and the Steel Guitar since. Thanks Bobbe

On the other hand, if you were an intergral part of an effort to try to get your favorite pedal steel player inducted and nobody tells you that it's going to happen, you will certainly be very hurt and sorry when you find out after the fact and you weren't there to see it.

I just wish someone would have told me Red Rhodes was being inducted last year. When I did find out, it was too late...though I was at least able to record it via SteelRadio.com.

In other words, I am saying that if we knew in advance who the inductees are, it would definitely pull in some people for the Sunday show, if not the whole weekend. If/when Pete Kleinow gets inducted, I'm sure you can imagine some rabid west-coast steel fans and/or Burrito Bros/Parsons fans coming to cheer him on.....I would think that there may have been some Nesmith fans there to cheer on Red's induction, too.
[This message was edited by Joe Alterio on 12 May 2006 at 05:11 PM.]

Folks,

Please help me work on nominating Bobbe. If anybody else is working on it, let's join forces. I'm going to suggest that we proceed as follows. If you think we should do it another way, please post here or email me.

Please read about what kinds of info we need at
http://scottysmusic.com/abouthof.htm

Anybody who would like to help, please post or email me relevant and specific FACTS that will help us make the case for Bobbe. All info should be verifiable because the committee checks out the accuracy of statements. If you post something here, others can check the accuracy, add detail, etc. Please don't post or send me info that isn't relevant to the statement at the url above. If you think something should be kept private, don't post it.

Also, please don't bother Bobbe about this. To keep this as professional, honest, and fair as possible, let's keep the nomination separate from all of the other contact we have with Bobbe. Please don't contact him about this unless it's really necessary.

Thanks for the emails.

At some point, somebody should ask Bobbe for info, but it would save him a lot of time and hassle if only one person does it, and if we wait until we have already gathered as much info as possible. That way we can put together a list of specific questions about what we don't know. Let's not bug him with questions about things that we can find out on our own. We're the ones who have to do the research.

This won't be too hard if people submit info. And i think it would be good if people out there interview people who know Bobbe's record.

What do you think?

It is mind baffling why Bobbe has not be in the SGHOF years ago. Hopefully this will be his year!

Edited out of common courtesy. I shouldn't be so quick to judge.

Curt,

The HOF can't put in everybody that deserves it. There are lots of guys they want to put in, but they can only do two a year.

And for somebody to get in, the nomination has to be done and done right.

Thanks, Curt. Yeah, I know from my own experience that all of this gets clear when you read the HOF nomination process and Bradshaw's post above. The HOF has to do it this way so that everybody gets a fair chance and you have rule by law.

My 2 cents!!! Bobbe is a superior player, and more so, a promoter of steel guitar. And don't forget b0b. I sit here reading and enjoying the forum and thinking, thank God for the Bobbe Seymours, b0b, and anyone who has helped take steel guitar to the next level...just think, folks, where would we be as players throughout the world today without the dedication and interest in steel guitar that these two gentlemen (and others) have done for us weekend warriors. Communication...that's the key.

I strongly support the nomination for Bobbe, and one for b0b, (even though he doesn't like awards Image. It's not the plaque anyway, it's the heartfelt thanks and recognition that each of us convey to our brothers.

Thanks, again, guys.
