Here's a shot of a band from 1960, sent to me by my friend Stu Schulman up in Alaska. The band is in a joint called "The Alibi Club." The photo is from Anchorage AK, but I don't know if the Alibi Club is/was there or not.

Does anyone know who any of these guys are?

The guitar/steel player reminds me of Geno King, I don't remember him playing steel though, but I didn't meet him until the middle sixties, sure looks like him.

Geno played Lead with Paul Harper. I have a picture of him with Wayne Galey on steel. The band I was with followed Harper into the Alibi Club in 1963. Harper talked a lot about Geno but he never mentioned him playing steel.

My mistake. Ray Robinson was on steel at the time.

Gene and the Bass player look like brothers.
The second word in the name of the band on the banner behind them might be YOUNG.

If so, he also must have gotten a good buy on the Gibson 6 string from Gene.

I'd bet my house, car, ranch,& dog that, that's Gino King. I saw Gino a couple o' years ago at the steel conv. in S.L. He's not doing well at all. He is terribly overweight & in a wheelchair. I met Gino when he,& Jim Murphy, were playing w/ Jimmy Dickens. Gino would take a guitar break down on one knee,& the guitar behind his head. "Tater" would sit on his knee,& bounce around like a puppet. Funniest thing I ever saw. Somewhere,in my record collection,I have an album by Gino,on Arc Records,a Canadian label. It was recorded sometime in the 60's. On the cover is a pic of Gino, playing a "double-neck" Moserite.

Here's a link about a bar that used to be called the Alibi Club, in Alaska. Doesn't help with your search for the missing "Gene" though.
http://www.koots.com/history.htm

It says that when The Alibi Club changed ownership, and became Koots, the music was provided by the original bar band from The ALibi Club...a group called the Rinky Dinks. Could this be them?

It does look like Geno King. I used to go hear him play here around the Ft Worth area. He was playing with Danny Wood, the son of Deb Wood who owned Deb's Danceland in Grand Prarie, Tx.

It must be Geno King, for this last piece of evidence... his belt buckle shows the letter "K," which is visible in the original size photo Stu sent me. I reduced the size of the photo for Forum loading purposes.

Now, who are the other two guys?

Definitely Gino King! (The little "spit-curl" gives him away.) He worked with Jimmy Dickens many years ago, and I believe he also worked for Faron Young and Carl Smith, too.

Joy. That's an interesting story abou Chillkoot Charlies, however the Alibi Club I working in in the early 60s was owned by Knute Helgaline(sp) and was located on East 6th street in Anchorage. After Knute sold out, the name was changed and I can't remember the name. It was close to the Ford Dealership at that time.

There were some rough bars there at that time; it seems to me that some were as close to the 'ol wild west as they could be.

GREAT NEWS!!

I just got off the phone w/ Gino. He's still living in Wisconsin. However,he's in a very depressed state of mind. He doesn't play professionally anymore, since his disability doesn't allow him to. He said that its pretty hard to carry around a guitar & a Nashville 400 amp in a wheelchair,so he just stays home & picks there. He's not on the i'net,so I ran off a copy of the pic that Herb posted,& am sending it to him. He will, then, identify the other 2 pickers for us. BTW,the name on the poster behind them is "Anne Young".

Gino is now,70 yrs old.

He also said that he would LOVE to hear from anybody that would like to write,or call him. Here's the gen'l. info. I have his permission to do this. Everybody,PLEASE,at least drop him a Christmas card. He would, very much, welcome it.
Thanx.

My buddy Deke Dickerson went and interviewed Gino last April and said Gino sure had some stories, most of them too raunchy to repeat here . Anyway, I emailed Deke the picture here and he said the timing was perfect; he's writing a piece about Gino for the Vintage Guitar magazine, so keep your eye out for the future issues!

The guy on the left is definitely Gino King. Gino is a LaCrosse, Wisconsin native and lives in LaCrosse now. I played in a band with him in the middle 80's. He was a great lead guitar player and singer, and I knew he used to play steel guitar. I just talked to Gino yesterday and another friend told me he ran across this post, so I looked it up. Ron
