Dressing Up

I have read commentary on the forum about how people should dress when playing a gig. I suspect it is a matter of taste, venue, and what the "boss" wants. I doubt anyone would wear a tux to a tennis match.
I submit for your approval an old photo (1983) of a well respected picker. It was shot with available light and is grainy, but I think it makes a point.

Let's not jump to conclsions here. I'm guessing that Buddy had a button-down shirt on when he started the gig... and it burned right off of his back after he whipped out his first solo.

He'll be neked by the end of the set...

if he doesn't have any respect for his fans why should anyone respect him let alone pay to see him. and by the way i didn't know Bruce Springstein played steel

Well, first of all that was a jam session type gig.Buddy payed his dues wearing uniforms with Price and Tubb just to name a few.

Second. I'd rather see and hear a true master play in a Tee shirt. Than to hear some hack in a $5000 suit.But that's just me ................

I don't know but I imagine if BE's wearing the above then that's probably about what everybody else may have had on at the time. Besides, who cares? BE deserves our respect whether he's wearing a t-shirt or a suit!

1. Clothes keep you covered up so you don't freeze or get arrested - they have nothing to do with "respecting fans".

2. Sorry, the idea that anyone wonders why steel players should respect Buddy Emmons is beyond my comprehension. He has earned that respect where it counts - by playing some of the finest and most innovative music ever made on a steel guitar.

I did do double-take at this shot though - he does look like Springsteen here. Now, that is not a bad thing. It certainly hasn't hurt Bruce any.
