New kid on the block ...

No kidding -- I'm just a kid. I'm only 58, and according to what I've been reading on the forum that's about average. I only wish I was an "average steel player" !
In my previous lives as a would-be steel player my ambition was to achieve mediocrity - but I failed miserably !

In one of his questions, Bob Carlucci asked "... seriously considered giving up?" -- well, I've tried giving up a few times. On a few occasions the steel was packed away in its' case for a month or two at a time, and for the last 5 - 6 years I haven't had a steel. I thought it would be a good idea to sell it and it would be out of my life forever. Well, it's not that easy to escape from this thing and just a couple of weeks back I've gone and got another. (A Fessy SD10 - it's the same colour and looks almost as good as Jerry Harkins new one.)
I should probably mention that where I live is the Epicentre of Steel Guitar Wilderness. (AKA Edinburgh, Scotland) It's less than 2 months since I first heard of the name "Fessenden" as a brand of steel guitar, such is the dearth of information/knowledge about PSG in this area.
Before I got rid of my last steel I didn't have internet access, so I didn't know about this website. In fact, I've really only discovered what an awesome place this is in the last couple of months.
So, I'm hoping all you guys out there can help make a steel player out of me ? ?

(For the moment I think I'll describe myself as a "non-playing steel player" - EH? )

through this site I have made connections with many steelers in my state.

I bet there is a steeler "Nessie" about in Scotland.

Aloha Jim, and welcome. I'm a newbie at (average) 61. I look at my steel and it whimpers for attention. It might have to wait until retirement, but I'm gonna learn to play it yet!

Another 58-yr-old kid? Welcome, Jim. If you want to make a steeler of yourself, you can do it--and, as you can probably tell from hangin' around this neighborhood, the necessary hard work doesn't have to turn you into a grownup...

Hi Jim, saw your guitar at the Drogheda Festival, and Ted told me last week that you had bought it.You have a really great guitar there.Hope you enjoy it.If you are over on the civilised side of the country get in touch.You have at least one other player on your side Ian Barbour, a real nice player, although he does not use it as often as I would like to see him do, using a telecaster for most of his bands(Sunshine Delay) numbers.Regards Malcolm.

the Nippon gaki folks made it a lot easier & alleviated much practice w: a keyboard in every home
they have'nt gotten around to psgs yet
