Favorite 5 songs you are playing with the band..

Post by Tony Prior »

I'm talkin' now..today..this weekend..

The Band I work with is really pushing me past my limits..which is actually easy to do in my laid back quiet small little life, and they want them just like the records or very close..I'm lucky to be working with these players, young, talented and just plain fun. The young gun Tele player, Matt Cook is really making a name for himself aorund the area..he really smokes on the Brent and Ray Flacke styles..as well as SRV..I hate him ! Actually he is really a fine young guy and at this time he has zero ego to speak ..just plays his butt off..

here's my favorite 5

Five O'Clock Somewhere
Heartbroke
Highway 40 Blues
I got a "Thinkin' Problem"
Little Moments

keep it to 5..ok ?

I can't believe how lucky I am to work every weekend with a band like I have been in the last 9 years. I play steel on every song and often with fiddle and/or lead harmony parts with a killer rythum section and singer. We play swing and old country, period. There is probably only 5 songs I don't enjoy but 5 favotites might be:

1 All of Me
2 Two Emty Bottles
3 The Other Woman/Brand new Mr.Me (medley)
4 Unchained Melody
5 Big Ball's in Cowtown

No steel in my band(I play 6 string), but here's my 5;
1.Little Bit of This(Santana)
2.Try a Little Tenderness(Otis Redding)
3.My Old School(Steely Dan)
4.What's Going On(Marvin Gaye)
5.Come and Go Blues(Allman Bros)

Someday when I get good enough, I'll bring out the steel, maybe for Black Coffee, Blou Bayou and Crazy 'bout a Mercury. I'm almost ready. JimP

Hey Jim,

My hat's off to you, pal. I've been tryin' to master "Straight No Chaser" for a few weeks. I've tried to do it solo (big joke) Image and I've tried it with a guitar accompanyment (still tough). What is the band instrumentation when you do that song. My big problem is the way the "head" plays out. Without a percussive rhthym section I keep blowin' the melody.

Keep on pickin'!
