What do you tell your wife?
When you find that new steel that you know you must have,do you,
1, set it up in the living room and see if she notices it?
2,keep it in the back of the car for the first three years?
3, Say you borrowed it from Skip, as he`s got loads of them!!?

I told my wife about the deal Dennis Kirkland down at DE-NO MUSIC In Casa Grande had made me over the phone...and she said, when did you tell him you would be down to pick it up? So Sat we went down and got my derby red Emmons SD-10. That was Dec 30th 1997. When I was only 65 years old I got my first pedal steel.

"This old thing? Why I've had it for ages. I just took it out now because I was thinking of the first time I saw you. I was playing this guitar back then. Since it's attached to such wonderful memories I could never part with it." <IMG ALIGN=LEFT SRC="http://imode-content.de/icons/anim-pinochio.gif">

wife: why do you need three steels!!!!!!???????
me: why do you have three sets of dishes and uncountable tupperware?
When I bought my first Carter, she asked me what I bought at the SGLI. I told her two sets of strings......she said is that all? I quietly mumbled.....they were attached to a D10. I still hear about that.

You might try the Seasonal approach. Try to convey your rare, scientific understanding of climate/weather effects on tuning, set-ups and (most of all) your ability to make her proud of you.
If that doesn't work, just tell her you found a really beautiful guitar that pulls at your heart STRINGS. It's so beautiful you've decided to name it after her.
And you can't wait for the two of them to meet.
As I've said before guys, I'm here to help! Honest.

When I mentioned to-she who must be obeyed-that I'd like to have a gut string classical guitar, she bought me a Yahama.
When I bought my psg she said, "That's nice."
When I mentioned a couple of years ago that I always wanted a Corvette-not necessarily new, she nosed around and found one for me.
Golf clubs she doesn't even want to hear about. "Long as you have the money dear."
Guess I married a good-un.
'Course when she buys a chiming clock made in 1910 or a new friggen Pathfinder Suburban assult vehicle I smile and say, "Nice choice dear...Long as we can make the payments."

Quite a pertinent thread eh Guys ?
When i got my D10, i did'nt say a word.
i wanted to see how long it would take my wife to notice.
My kids noticed it way before she did !
so far i have'nt ended up in ICU, or gotten any black eyes like some of you guys may have
btw: most of my gear is'nt at home, but in my bear cave

I have too much trouble trying to play the one I have. Having one steel and one amp entitles me to lots of accessories; that according to Ernest Bovine.
My sense is that well over half of these very creative ideas are real life instances and they only sound made up. Damn! You guys are good.
