Hank, Jr. / Bama Band & EDDIE LONG

Post by Bill Ferguson »

Wow. I had the great fortune last Friday of spending the day with my long time friend, Cowboy Eddie Long.

We spent the day reminising and watching the set up for the Hank, Jr. concert in N Atlanta. I got to be there for sound check, and then Eddie handed me passes for the show and backstage.

Now let me tell you. I am not a big Hank, Jr. fan, but he put on an absolute killer show. The Bama band was superb and Eddie played stuff on his Single 12 Sierra that I could not believe was coming from a steel.

If you ever get the chance to see this show or hear Eddie play live, DO IT.

We talk about taking steel guitar into a new era. Well in my opinion Eddie has done this and will continue to do so.

In the meantime, Eddie has a new album that is great. If you are interested, let me know.

Bill you are absolutly correct.
This past Saturday I had the extreme pleasure of working with the group opening for Hank Jr. and the Bama Band.
Cowboy, a great guy and a fantastic steel guitarist.

Your right on the money about Cowboy. He can
play it like a 6 stringer or a steel. He's
got the funkiest rhythms on steel I've ever
heard. We were playing a gig in Paris Tn years back and Eddie was in the audience He
came up and sat in on my Sho bud playing a Little Feat tune. He fell right in and played
the signature lick with me on guitar like he'd played it his whole life. He's an alien.
