What is that dang thing?
The drummer asked me last night what the difference was between the 2 "keyboards" on my D10. ROTFLMAO Never heard this one before.

Back in the 70s, after watching me play for almost two hours, a guy walks up and asked me if my steel was an "electric piano." I was so stunned, he never got any kind of answer. I thought of the saying "When arguing with an idiot, make sure he's not doing the same." I was younger then and didn't have much patience, but today I could have more composure and give him a civil answer.

Yes, this was a country drummer, living in Nashville, who's had at least one artist gig that I know of. Maybe he never worked with a steel before. I'll tell you a secret - there aren't that many good drummers here. For every 10 great guitar or steel players, you'd be lucky to find one drummer who can play a decent shuffle.

I've had my steel called a ‘Pineapple Slicer’ which didn't even sound at all funny to me, just dumb!
That was ‘Humor’ 50 years ago! I've also had it called a ‘Buiscut Board’! Just as dumb, to me! I can forgive someone for asking if it's a keyboard, just because they really don't know what to call such a wonderful-sounding instrument! They always say, “Ignorence is Bliss”

I'd be inclined to give this drummer a bit of slack in that "keyboards" was probably the first analogy that came to mind for the two necks. They really don't look much like the necks on other instruments... and people don't always express themselves adequately in unfamiliar territory. (remember the "Doubly Sound" jokes from "Spinal Tap"?) On the other hand, I've also had someone watch me playing very closely, sometimes for hours, only to come up and compliment me on my piano work. I've also apparently been a "lap stool", "autoharp", and "dulcimer" player on occasion. I think my favorite was via an ex-girlfriend's daughter, who loved to watch me play my "Zittle".
