I've never seen this color on a Champion. Was it special order?

That's only the second time I have seen a green one. Rare yes, but I don't think that you could have special ordered MOTS back then.

There were only a few batches of blue MOTS Champions produced in '49 - '51. As they age they will often turn green. Yes they are rare (even more rare if yours is still very blue).

It finished at $455. I expected it to do better because of it's rarity. There's a 1949 listed now in pristeen condition. Do you think it will top $700? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33039&item=7329847384&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

I would expect it to sell under $700. Cool yes, but $700 buys a lot of toys these days.

I saw one of these green MOTS Champions in a small music store in Tennessee about 12 years ago. The owner thought it was worth big bucks since it had an old Tele-style pickup in it. He allowed as he might sell it for $600-$700 back then.

As far as values go, it's surprising, but the latest Vintage Guitar Price Guide lists these for $700-800 in Excellent Condition. To me, that makes no sense in comparison to their $600-700 value for a 50s Ricky BD-6 Bakelite. I guess the Fender name does it for a lot of guitar players, plus I'm confident that some people cannibalize these for parts, which have gone up sharply in recent years.
