Years ago Eddie Arnold recorded a song titled
IF I HAD A NICKEL. And for those who remember
OK Im sure all the fellows like Buddy and John Hughey remember, even Gene Jones, maybe all the "mature" guys.
So with that said here are a few bars of that
old tune.
If I had a nickel,I'll tell ya what I'd do
Id spend it all on candy and give it all to
you, spend it all on candy, and give it all to
you, cause thats how much I love you baby, thats how much I love you.
And then,,Red Foley recorded..Tears fallin down your pretty cheeks, tears you cannot hide
and tears you cannot keep ( I think??)
There are tears of sadness and tears of delight,I wished I had a nickel for every tear I shed last night.
That was when a nickel was a lot of money, nowadays kids dont use nickels, they use
the green backs called "loot". My grandsons
drop the nickels and I run and pick them up.
So can you imagine that If had a nickel and paid bOb a nickel for every word I have posted on this Forum?? Why he'd be a rich man.
But since Im living on a "fixed income" fixed
by the Government,I can only afford just so much.
So,all I can say to bOb is...................
If I had a nickle I'll tell ya what I'd do
I give it all to bOb and spend it wherever you do, spend it all on Bobby and tell him what not to do,,and that is DONT SPEND IT ALL IN ONE PLACE,,cause thats how much I love you Bobby,,thats how much I love you.
Here comes the tag babababa da,,,thats how much I love you,BOBBY Thats how much I love you........ ,OHHHHHHHH YEAH
But I dont have a nickel,,but I'd give a "penny" for your thoughts. quiet Joey I can read your mind.Dont even think about it
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, and I have to ask you,HOW HAVE YOU PUT UP WITH ME THIS LONG? OHHHHHH YEAH..I think he likes me
a little. edited for royalties owed to

A Wooden Nickle ?
Probably worth more than a Canadian Nickle.

Jody . I well remember those nickles. I was about, maybe 10 years old when I discovered there was a place in town a kid could go see a cowboy show, if he had two nickles.
Well all weeklong I`d look for ways to earn a nickle,. We Lived in the country, bout 5 Miles out. I knew a place where the Indians once lived. There were good springs there for water, and our favorite swimming hole.
I would go there after it rained, scratch around looking for arrowheads. I most always could find one, sometimes more.
These I would take to school, our school was next door to the college, there was a musem there thwt would give 10 to 15 cents for all the arrow heads you could find.
Nickles werea very important part of a kids life. You could usually go to town, walk the streets looking in the gutters and find a nickle ordime ,rarely Quarters.
I guess I dont have a lot to do either,
Once in La. the ticks got so bad they passed a "DIPPING" law, Eyery one was required to dip their livestock. There was a scoolteacher had a milk cow, had no way to get her ole cow to the dipping vat,. The vat was across the highway from where I lived. She offered me 15 cents to walk the three miles to her place, take her cow, have it dipped . and bring her back home..This was once a week. so I earned my show fare.
Now how do you likethat story; Hey

Yes Jody, I sure do remember that song. Also, lets refine that wooden nickle era even more.....who remembers "mills", the coins with a hole in the center that came in various coin denominations of fractions of a penny? A dimes worth of mills in your pocket made a kid feel rich! www.genejones.com |

And if you were a horsefly, and I an old gray mare.
I'd stand and let you bite me, and never move a hair…

I remember going to High School in Cleveland, Ohio. I bought Pepsi for a Nickel because it was a lot bigger bottle than a coke. I also bought a White Tower Hamburger for a nickel(5 for ,25) to go along with it for my lunch.....al |

Yup, I remember that song. Eddy Arnold did it, and so did Patsy Cline.
"If you was a tiger, I'd hang around your den,
And pester you my honey, until you let me in."
The real title of the song, however, is the same as the repeating refrain...
"That's How Much I Love You"
