I saw a show featuring the New Riders of the Purple Sage and Commander Cody in Arlington, TX back in the early 70's.
I then saw Maurice Anderson with Phil Baugh not long after that. That was at a music store in Dallas where I took guitar lessons. One of the owners' name was Jess. He was supposedly related to Maurice and played bass with him for a long time.
Jess went on to work with Box Car Willie, I believe. He had lived in Waco for a time. He was also related to Chuck Harding - my original guitar teacher when I was 6 or 7 years old. Chuck taught in Waco.
Anyhow, diverging back to the point here. Fifteen years later, I buy a steel and studied it hard for 10 years. I am back to mostly playing guitar, but I still love the steel. I got to study with Maurice for a day and learned a lot - he wore me out on "All the Things You Are".
