Paul, so true...I'm sure that most of us when looking back probably have trouble identifying those with whom we "passed in the night" who went on to "fame".

When I was still in highschool I was called by some guy from a neighboring town who was working a little "beer joint" down by the railroad tracks and needed a steel player. I was a still a newby so I was so impressed that someone would hire me that I remembered his name.....It was Roger Miller from Erick, Oklahoma. www.genejones.com

Paul
Bruntingthorpe is the closest Base to me, about 10 miles away. I have played many U.S. bases myself in the past, Heyford, Croughton, Mildenhall and Lakenheath to name just a few, but I never got to play Bruntingthorpe.

Bobbe is great! He talked to me for about an hour a couple of weeks ago. (No other famous player has done that in the last 35 years.)

Why, he even told me I was a "fine person"!

(Then I looked up "fine" in the dictionary, and it turns out it means "very small") Image
[This message was edited by Donny Hinson on 06 September 2001 at 02:36 PM.]

Look out Bobbe! You're in Neil's book! I never give Bobbe a pop, I call him Pop...now that I think of if, I wish he were my Pop, then I'd have an excuse. Bobbe plays wonderfully, but he goes through guitars like Madonna through wardrobe changes.......will he ever settle down? I doubt it, but it keeps me working, just putting his set-up on guitars. That short key-head Emmons he just got is pure sweetness......now I gotta' shtick 4 more knees on it......ahh, a woman's work is never done. If ya'll need me....I'll be 'slingin' rod'. peace.......Jeff

Jeff, that whole concept of changing the changer on the short keyhead Legrande is one I've never thought of. That was always my hangup with my guitar, just never quite had the tone and sustain that I heard in my head. Always liked the pedal action and feel of the guitar though.

Yes, the secret of the short key-head LeGrande is to put the late model changer on it, or find one the factory built this way which could be a hard chore. After a lot of expermenting and A-B work, we have realized that the problems with this guitar had to do with the original changer and not the keyhead as originaly suspected. This guitar with the late (new) type changer is a total killer. Not that it was that bad before, but the changer made the difference in sustain, timbre, and easier pedal action.
Sure, it's better to buy a new LeGrande than to go through all this trouble to modify an old one, however, don't turn down a great old one if you can get a good deal.As most of you know, any deal on an Emmons of any kind can be a deal if your going to play it. Any LeGrande with the new type changer--------- or any P-P,BUT----- I don't have to tell you what you already know.
