I will stop posting after this,,,but I have to say this, This human being Smiley has to be the best of the best,,,,thats a great picture,,,,Goodbye guys........

I tried to hang in....but I find it impossible to see the hatred and animosity among what we call a "fraternity" we all love steel guitar,,,why does it have to end this way??? I love Smiley as the rest of you do,,,,,,but the Forum is not as I thought it would be,,,,sorry,,,,,,,What happened??? to the so called brotherhood??? I cant find it with some of those who are vicious.

I dont need it ...do you???? Im sorry to have "injected" my comments on a nice thread
like this,,,Smiley deserves the best cause he is the best....love ya guy,,,,,,didnt want to "muddy" up the water just because of bad feelings on the Forum.....Goodbye again
Best of everything to all of you,,,,and may God help those who need his guidence...I will pray for those who " know not what they do,.....
[This message was edited by Jody Carver on 01 August 2001 at 04:56 PM.]

A little explanation of this photo.

This is Smiley playing at the Mass Bash on July 15th 2001.

Smiley did a FANTASTIC job playing and put on a great show. Wonderful touch, tone and feel.
This man is the real deal and so very under-rated.

I just wanted to share this photo of our friend.

Cheers,

Smiley just gets more handsome all the time Image

I'm not sure exactly what you are referring to Jody but hang in there. Ignore the viscious ones, that's the way they are and it's their problem. Let them say what they like. They are more to be pitied than blamed.

Grrrrrrrr........I'm a vicious one......by the way, Smilin' Smiley....your guitar is done. Next time, if you fly....ship your guitar first, don't check it in a regular case...or buy an ATA approved job. Makes my job easier.

Who is that Old Phart and what is that Whiney thing he is playing? Image

Could this be the Illusive Swinette? Image

He ain't Changed a bit since the 70's when he was on Lowest Broad making the big bucks. Image

You're Looking Good, Smiles.
Hang in there Bud.

You guys are right, this guy is so underrated it isn't funny. A Great Human being too. There's a lot of people that fall far behind Smiley when it comes to promoting the Steel Guitar and Good will at the events he attends. My question is, why isn't he performing at these events as a featured artist.

Thanks for posting that picture, Kurt.

Smiley's one of the folks that I especially enjoy seeing at the ISGC every year and since I can't make it this year that will help with my withdrawal symptoms.

Great pic! Image

Rick I don't believe Smiley is going to St. Louis either this year. Why isn't this man featured on more steel shows? Certainly he belongs but Smiley is not into self promotion or tail kissing either. He is the genuine deal the Henny Youngman of the music business always ready to crack a joke a second. His main goal in life I always thought and still do is to be a friend more so than gaining one. However that has backfired on him.The man has friends all over the world. Heck even Wal-Mart advirtises him.long live the Shorts.

Great picture Kurt, but where's the shorts?!

Jody,
Yes things have strayed toward the darkside recently, I've had the same doubts that you expressed.

But leaving is not the answer. That's giving the offenders too much control. Hang around and don't read posts by (insert names here).

There's too much good stuff here, even if Kurt insists on posting Smiley pix Image.

WOW!! Guys, thanx for all the nice words. I just decided to take a break from this "infernal machine" for few days. Been to Cincy,w/ a friend,to see the Reds play.(& win). Went to the Cincy Zoo. WOW,whatta place!! The gorilla cage was empty,so I asked the attendant where they were. He said they were in back, makin' love. I said,"Would they come out for some peanuts" He said,"Would you?"

FWIW, I saw Smiley play at the Mash Bass. He shared the stage with this fella who - to say the least, was FAST (and tasteful, I must admit). I forgot his name, but the folks backing him up seemed sort of like 'his own crew', so Smiley kinda had the deck stacked against him for solo time from the get go.

Anyway, even in that situation, I remember thinking that I'd rather be sitting there listening to Smiley's soulful playing any day of the week. Good job, Bub!

Steve F.

The young gentleman who shared the stage
with Smiley is none other than Jimmy
Roule Jr., from Chicopee, Ma. He is a
credit to the art of playing steel guitar. He has developed a palm blocking technique that is unbelievable. His performances are among the most entertaining, whenever he is featured in shows, or otherwise.
Smiley, and Jimmy share a great friendship. Bill H.

Smiley,
Great to see somebody other than us home folks finding out you are the real deal.I
still bet I am the only person in Hueytown
who ever heard of you. Their loss, pal!

Hey Jody, Ignore those people who seem to
want to create a controversy at every turn.
Hang in with us and we enjoy your participation. Smiley and Bobbe take their lumps and keep dishing it out and you can
too.
