Richard;
Thanks for notifying me about that. Access Denied occurs on my websites for browser User Agents on my blocklist, or for a combination of a blank user agent and blank referer field, or if you are coming from an IP address that has been blocked for past activities, such as spamming access logs. You may have a dynamic IP that once belonged to such a spammer, that was automatically banned.

I want to get you unblocked, so I'll start by asking what make and version browser you are using to access my websites?

Next, send me an email, via your actual ISP, using the email link above this reply. The email will reveal your IP address, to help me track down the problem in my access logs.

When was the last time you tried to access one of my websites (approx)? Which website?

Are you using an anonymous proxy to browse the net? Are you using a security program that blocks your referer field and alters your browser's user agent? Wwo is your ISP?

These things will help me figure out why you are being denied access and will let me poke a hole in the defenses, so to speak, for you.

Hmmmm. Something is wrong with my web hosting company.

The HTTP server is not working, but the FTP server and mail server are. My add on domains aren't listed in my CPanel!

Standby.

Just to confirm what you apparently already know, I'm clicking your signature links and getting 'unable to connect' messages on my Firefox browser.

Wow ---- Server Load 240.00 (2 cpus)

I'm watching the meltdown of my server. Oh well, I've enjoyed all of this I can stand. It's off to Bluehost for me, to get a new web host.

Oh. I see that Apache has been updated on my server, from 1.3.33 all the way up to 1.3.37! Amazing 6 hour effort, considering that the current version of Apache is 2.2.3. What a waste of time, performing an incremental update instead of a version update, along with all of the improvements and security fixes it would provide to go to the current version.

Here is what I would have if my host had gone for the full upgrade to v2.2.3:
quote:

Apache 2.2.3 Released

The Apache HTTP Server Project is proud to announce the release of version 2.2.3 of the Apache HTTP Server ("Apache"). In addition to a number of bug fixes to release 2.2.3, this release includes an 'important' security fix for mod_rewrite.

This version of Apache is a major release and the start of a new stable branch, and represents the best available version of Apache HTTP Server. New features include Smart Filtering, Improved Caching, AJP Proxy, Proxy Load Balancing, Graceful Shutdown support, Large File Support, the Event MPM, and refactored Authentication/Authorization.

If you are involved in the web hosting business, this should be of interest to you or your superiors. If not, you got to hear me vent my spleen at having my website go dark through no fault of my own.

Richard;
Thanks for letting me know that. I still cannot login to my CPanel on the web host, and am in the process of setting up on Bluehost. I will probably transfer everything to them tonight and tomorrow and let the DNS change propagate over the weekend. There may be random outages of my websites during the transition, especially because the old host allowed the server to overload and crash.

If anybody else finds my websites inaccessible, please post about it here, or email me at my hotmail account, linked to above.

I completed the transfer of my files to the new server, except for the database used by my blog. All attempts to connect to a new database, with the same credentials, result in an access denied error. Attempts to import the saved database fail with the same message. I am waiting a reply from support at Bluehost.

What this means for you is that if you visit my blog and try to use the search function, or post a comment, it will fail with an error message. All hard coded messages are still viewable and findable via the archives and previous posts links, in the right sidebar.

I hope to have the database restored and running later today.

Ok. My blog's database has been imported and the search function should be good to go. Let me know about any problems you all find on wizcrafts.net, since the site was moved to a new host.
