Which means the speed of the WAV file (now MP3) is slower than the input. How does this happen?

I've never saw that happen.

However, what else were you running on the PC when you did the "recording"?? When I do audio recording from the "Line In" jack, I don't have any other programs running (same way when I do an audio CD burn - just the CD burning program running).

Did this just happen one time, or does it do it everytime?

Erik, what are you using to measure the time? Are you using a computer program to record a complete cassette tape of multiple songs? If so, does the program automatically introduce a period of silence between songs?

Is it possible you're recording at 48kHz and playing back at 44.1 somehow?
