The sound went weird on me, I would have to mute, then unmute the sound to get it to work.I have a Creative "Sound Blaster Live" external usb unit, which by the way is fine. The headset jacks worked fine (I keep them pluged in most of the time),one side of the headset went out, is how I found it. With the headset unpluged, no sound, speakers worked in the headset jack, but not in the speaker jacks. After contacting mfg.,and going thru their procedures. Turned out after running a diagnostic that said the sound card was ok, I ran Spybot, and it turned up 5 hits, deleated them.Don't remember the names of the virus, but they are gone sound back to normal.
Reason I posted this, I never heard of,or had it happen to me.

Hi , hope someone can help with this problem. We bought our computer brand new,but a year and a half later the sound quit working alltogether. We got new speakers but that didn't work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Charles |

Charles, more than "it doesn't work" is needed for someone to try and help you.
What brand/model PC? What Operating system? what type of sound card (or on-board sound module). And is the sound card an "OEM" card or a Retail model?
Are the speakers you are using "powered"? (have their own built in power amp).
Did you have sound and then reloaded the PC and after reloading the PC the sound was gone?
If you have a PC with a front panel headphone jack, like most Dell's have, does the headphone jack work? |
