Jeffran DVDs

Hello,
Has anyone had problems with Jeffran DVDs becoming damaged after being played on a computer DVD player? The discs just freeze up at a certain point(usually toward the end) and don't play anymore. Not all of the discs do this. Some play fine. Fran was willing to replace four or five and sited the computer as the problem. The computer is convenient to use. I don't understand why a computer DVD player would cause these problems and Fran said she didnt exactly know why.I play many other unrelated DVDs without problem. Love these courses and Jeffran Music. Can anybody shed some light.

I download mine to the hard drive and play them from there. I have done that on 3 of his courses and have no problems using the DVD in a player on my TV later. I am not to sure why the computer would cause damage to the disk, but maybe someone eles can shed little light on that....James

I think it might depend on the player ...if it's a cheap add on it might be suspect.
I have a DVD of Hal and Buddy which won't play all the way through on a cheap DVD player, but is just fine on my flash one !!
Perhaps the player in the laptop is a bit dodgie !

Your logic is good but Ive tried these discs on two new DVD players and they still freeze. The gal at Jeffran claims the computer DVD caused the problem. Weird...

Hi All

Depends how the DVD was produced originally.

If it was made on a computer,chances are you will have problems,if it is a proper Pressed DVD,then it should work fine.

Copy the DVD to a folder on your hard-drive,then try to run it from there,the data transfer rate on a computer is often not fast enough to stream the data from a DVD, streaming from the Hard-drive is a better way of doing it.

If it still dosen't work,suspect the disc is faulty.

It would be very unlikely that a DVD player would cause a disc to be unplayable....but it is possible you may have scratched the disc. Or, the disc just may be dirty.....wipe it with some alcohol using a kleenex with strokes going from the center on out (in other words....do NOT clean it as you would a vinyl record....go against the grain).

In any event, for the $50-$100 that Jeffran sells those DVDs for, you'd think rather than pass blame on to the customer they'd just offer you a new one. DVD discs are running...what....less than a $1 each these days?

Terry. I've had the same problem with most of my Jeff Newman's dvd. They freeze up near the last chapter. I'm playing them on a Bose system, and that is not a cheap system. I have been thinking that I had damaged them somehow, but now hearing that someone else is experiencing the same problem makes the discs suspect. Keep us informed as to the remedy.

I agree it's a "cop out". Although Jeff is gone, even when he was around they would always give you a hassle on bad media. I had a set of audio tapes that I bought - basically rhythm tracks and a couple also had a singer. Two of the tapes were "off key" and off enough that it really made a difference. I contacted Jeff about them and the first thing I got was "it's your machine - there's nothing wrong with the tapes". However, since commercial audio tapes played "on key" and other tapes in the set played OK I knew it had to be the tapes. I pressed the issue and finally and reluctantly, he replaced them with "good" tapes. That was the last thing I ever bought from Jeff.
