I recently changed the speaker in my Nashville 400 to a 12 inch Eminence Delta-Lite. The speaker weight improved the over-all weight of the amp and the sound is fantastic. I don't think the new Nashville 112 amp could sound better. The 8 ohm speaker doesn't take enough power away from the amp to cause a volume short falling either. You have got more power than a Nashville 112 and I checked my heatsink after a couple of hours picking and it was not anywhere close to being hot. I thought some of you may want to try this setup before putting all the Nashville 400's up for sale. I've noticed quiet a few being offered lately.

A 12" speaker in a Nashville 400 won't make it a Nashville 112. There's more to the Nashville 112 amp than just a 12" speaker. It's the power amp electronics, and the selected 12" speaker plus the overall cabinet response.

Harold the last Nashville 400 i owned, i took the basket out and replaced it with a full range basket and it sounded much better
to me. I beleive it originally had a 1502
Bass basket that some how seemed to rob the amp of some of the highs. The full range had the highs but did a nice job overall in producing the spectrum for psg.
Never had any luck with JBL's or Altecs ina Peavey amp. TJH |

I can't speak for Harold, but I don't think he is comparing the 400 to the 112 per se. The way I'm reading his post is that the speaker mod results in less weight while maintaining good sound quality and the power of the 400. An alternative to buying another amp.

Jack, I didn't want anyone to think this array would be equal to a Nashville 112. I was using the power factor of the 112 Vs the Nashville 400 @ 8 ohms. As a matter of fact, the setup I am using, Nashville 400 with mod kit and speaker mod, sounds as good or better than a 112. I have notiticed there are more Nashville 400 for sale lately and I assumed some were being sold and replaced with a Nashville 112. I understand why. Weight..... and sound quality. I am offering my experience to those that would be willing to try this setup before totally discarding a Nashville 400. Long live Peavey because for years now they have been the only company making an effort to sastisfy us steel players desires with a production amp at an affordable price.

I've seen posts here, and other places about changing something in one amp and then comparing it to a different amp. And the only way to get an amp to sound like "whatever" amp is to have a "whatever" amp. Same way with the modeling units such as a POD XT (I have one) and I don't hear any model that sounds like the real thing.
That was the reason for my comment.
I had a 1996 Nashville 400 with the factory mod (installed by Peavey). I tried a 15" Deltalite speaker in it (same as Evans used in the SE-200 amps) and suffice to say after trying it I had no desire to replace the Black Widow speaker. |

I guess that is why we buy the things we do. We are an elite group of curious people searching for that ideal setup. If there were more steel players in the world, I'm sure the economy would be better than it is. I've spent a small fortune over the years searching for the sound I wanted. I have the guitar I want now and am closer than I've ever been to getting the sound I want. Getting here took 33 years of swapping guitars, amps, and an enormous amount of learning.

Yep, I agree! I would be fearful of calculating the number of dollars I've spent! There is no way to count it all up as senility has set in and I lied to my wife so many times as to what I paid for an item! The real value spent is not available. I know it is a small fortune though!!

I did a spur of the moment "mutt' speaker change myself and used a "free" brand new reconed K140 JBL8 ohm in place of the original BW 4 ohm.
I really liked it. I didn't notice a loss of power, but then I rarely have floorboarded the BW, and I understand the JBLs are slightly more "efficient", but like I said, I noticed no degradation.
It seems like it's got a little smoother bass recponse and have no loss of highs.
I'll probably keep it that way.
