I would LOVE that Boogie for steel...It would probably be a nice warm steel amp,and old Boogies are built better than just about anything ever made.

I played through a few with steel and they sound great.. IF you like tubes!!.. It will NOT sound like a big Peavey steel amp.. VERY different sound. bob

I have a 79 similier, only without the graphic EQ and hardwood cabinet. Mine has a Altec 15" speaker. Great steel amp, warm tone, and anything over 2 will blow the windows out of your house. I have three mesa boogie amps, and all are great.
They are heavy. I also have a Session 500, which is a great amp, but does not have the tube tone, if that is what you are going for.
Boogies are pretty much bullet-proof. I recommend using their power tubes.

Hmmm....tubes, 100 watts, hand-wired, graphic EQ, EVM speaker, reverb, cool vibe. Whew!

ALL the marks of a pretty impressive amp.

Heavy little boogers, though.

Whew! What a beauty. Yes, that would be a nice steel amp! A real gem.

I probably built that amp and I may have even gigged with it (the wood cabinet looks familiar). They were absolutely great for steel provided that you play in a loud band. Very loud, very clean sound with plenty of lows and a sparkling high end. It may be responsible for the high frequency hearing loss in my right ear.

I never felt that it sounded right at low volumes. Not bad, just sort of lackluster. The tone didn't really bloom until it reached a certain threshhold. I don't think I've ever heard a better loud amp for steel.

On closer examination, this was built before I started working at Mesa (I joined the company in August 1980). My comments about the quality of these amps still stands though.
