Matchbox 7A - bypass?

Post by Brett Foster »

Folks,
I'm a new member with a recently acquired Matchbox 7A. I have searched the forum archives on the unit so have got lots of good opinions (one way or the other) but my question is whether the on/off toggle is supposed to mute the signal throughput completely (as it does on my unit) or whether it is supposed to act as a bypass (which I kind of expected).
I'm not much of a techhead so will not appear in "Electronics" very often but this seems like the right group to ask,
Thanks,
Brett Foster

The on/off switch on the 7A turns the unit off when not in use, to prolong the life of the battery.

Thanks Bob, but even I kind of sussed that out. I was wondering if turning the battery off necessarily meant no signal passed through at all, sorry if that seems obvious to others but I was just trying to A/B the sounds without unplugging and replugging etc.

Brett, the on/off switch shuts off the signal completely in the off position.

The only way to A/B the 7A being in or out of your signal path is to unplug & replug.

So it seems your unit is working correctly.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, other Bob. I got it for a pretty good price on ebay ($50AU, $35US) so was wondering if it was in full working order. Now all I need to do is learn to play well enough to let it do its thing,
