Just a blurb to the "gear-heads" out there. Line 6 has announced a new update for the XT this summer that will include better modeled cabinets & mics, but also include 1-15" modeled speaker, and another 2x12".
The update also is to include a "post" EQ on each preset, to tweak the overall EQ on a preset. I think this will be a BIG help in tweaking in sounds.
So, for any XT owners out there, stay tuned to www.line6.com I am getting a backup XT delivered today, so I'll have one I can mess with to make sure the update is what it should be...
Happy Tone-Tweaking,
David Spires
PS - I have a Variax 500 coming too... It is happy gear day at my house. |

Even though that 1x15 is a Supro Thunderbolt (bass amp) speaker, this model will get you the RANGE of a 15" speaker... however the addition of the post-cabinet model EQ should allow you to 'tweak' the response of that 1x15 even further... so they WERE listening after all

Hmmmmmmmm... Got me thinking, that was one thing holding me back from upgrading.

Are those models downloadable, or is my understanding wrong?

Eric,
The way it works, is you go to their site, and download the 'pod xt updater', and run it (pod connected via USB, and it will search the net for the newest version, and update your POD with it. The firmware also catches other thigns other than amp/cabinet model updates-- it also catches glitches in the software etc. The whole process usually takes like 5 minutes or so... I updated the firmware in all my Line6 products within minutes of them arriving in my house.

1.05 is the current firmware, however, the firmware with the 1x15 cabinet model will NOT be out, I repeat NOT be out for AT LEAST ANOTHER MONTH (depending on when the Line6 folk decide to release it).. Sorry for any confusion. |

Peter.If you think you're a moron, you're probaby not..
Incidentally, I've had the best luck with the Bassman Tweed model, 2 12s condenser etc. Check it out. THe Blackface Twin seemed a little thin and hollow.
Anyhow Thanks all for the info, I'll be downloading the 1 15 when it comes out.
Love that Pod.
Finally though ditched using the tuner in favor of my old trusty in line Korg DT3.

Eric, with regards to the tuner: I am going to try to calibrate it with a Peterson. I mean, when the Peterson says a string is in tune, I'll try to print out the tuner setting on the PodXT and stick the results on my guitar for reference. All I need is to record the positions for -18, -6, -4, -2, +2, +4, +6, +8 and +10. This moronic idea might work. |

I didn't find it to be out of tune, but it's a real pain to read while I'm playing without pressing the "tune" button, and then selecting "mute" or playing the note without processing in the other mode.
The Korg, is in line before the VP, is on all the time, reads without any volume, and it's been the handiest. Problem was I used to have it on the leg of the SB that now has my Podxt on it.
I don't think I care particularly for this setup either because it looks kind of garrish hanging out there. Maybe I'll get a mike stand in the future.
I am looking forward to the 15" model.
I'm hoping I don't have to wipe out my banks of saves amps, but I only have about 8 working ones, and can go through them and re-edit if I have to.

Eric, do yourself a favor and download Line6 edit, and while you have the POD hoooked up to the PC via USB (or midi, makes no difference , you can grab all the presets you have on the Pod to your PC, and save them somewhere on your pc as 'backups'. Since when you do the update, if it wipes out the settings you have (don't think it should, I know they will have some factory presets to show off the new models etc, however, they are expanding the available number of locations from 64 to 128 I think...) but in either case (actually its not a bad idea to save yoru presets to hard drive-- I know I do with all my gear that I can, that way in case something happens etc, the presets are a 2 minute operation to restore (Line6 edit again can do this .
--- although I say this, plan on having to tweak your presets anyways, since they are redoing ALL the cabinet models-- so in otherwords, if say the 2x12 twin or 4x10 bassman cabinet sound great NOW, after the update, they may not sound as good, and you may like different models more... so plan on writing another half dozen or so and tweaking the ones you have already

Very smooth and totally transparent. I mean, you don't even notice it is there, until you switch it off. I have a single coil pickup with hum, but I only hear it if I pick unreasonably light. So I never hear it. |

Thanks, Peter
The NG in my Roland GP-100 is exactly that; transparent and so smooth. How is the reverb in the podxt? The first pods I tried had very weak reverb if I rememember right?
thx

The reverb is OK. Thats all I can say. I have heard many better reverbs in sound studios in stereo. The PodXt reverb is not stereo I believe. Some delay effect are in stereo though, so you can combine it with reverb. I haven't played much with it. |

The Line6 update for the POD XT is out today! I'm going to download it into the Pod That I'm selling. Yes I'm still selling... need the $$ but the update looks to be quite a venture on their part... they are also offering additional 'model packs' -- in other words, you will now be able to purchase more amp models and effects models (the whole enchilada will be like $99, partial packs i.e. effex only, or amps only will be like $50 each give or take...) |

Downloaded and installed the upgrade... AMAZING! The 1x15" cab is VERY good, and sounds good for steel guitar (didnt try it infront of an amp, but rather ran it direct into my monitor system). Between this, and the other tonal tweaks to the XT, it's like a whole different box now, it's what the PodXT shoudl have been all along. The new postprocesing parametric eq is REAL nice for final tweaking of tones. I didn't purchase the additional amp/efects modules (would give you like 72 amps to choose from + an extra handful of effects), since I wasn't going to spend any $$ since I'm selling the Pod (not that these amp/effects packs would be much use for steel guitar, for 6 string playing, they would be real nice to have on deck! Believe me, if I didn't need the $$ I would not be selling this... in fact as it stand now, I am having doubts... in any case, i just thought I'd do any prospective buyer the favor of doing the upgrade, plus give ya'll a nice little review of the upgrade.. |

Yea, I just did the upgrade/download. Haven't listened yet, but I'll give some feedback as soon as I do. I like the idea of that post EQ for sure.

After a little wrestling I got it. Makes my 15 inch speakers sound like 15s I guess, and I"m getting all my old models rearranged for performance venues.
I'm thinking I like it, in spite of the interface change. It was a little easer changing amps with the 4 lower buttons.
If it doesn't work out, I can always reload the old config.
This thing is as amazing as I have time to fool with it.
All my presets seem to use Fender models, and as always, the compression and overdrive need to be before a volume pedal.
Oh well.
I've learned not to ID myself as a "Steel" guitar player over on their tech board, or they act like you've got leprosy.
I'd like to hear more about it.
