After dragging out my Trans-TubeFex from about a year's storage it has a problem. It worked fine the last time I used it.
At first it would not even turn on so I took the cover off to look at the fuse, which was good. I did find a loose wire at the display which I tightened. I then turned it back on and all the display does is flash fairly rapidly between the opening screen and a message that says, "DSP Interface Error, (resetting system)". It also has a "clicking" sound to it sometimes. If I leave it on to "reset" it just goes blank after a while. If I jar it slightly, all kinds of weird things happen.
If you can help, please advise.
As always, thanks.

Hi Jim,
I am not familiar with the Transtubefex, but can't you reset the system manually by pressing two buttons at the same time, like with the Tubefex (I believe the up and down buttons, but you will have to check the manual for this)?
Good luck,
Ad

A reset is in order, but be prepared to loose all your user settings! Hopefully you have them backed up on a cache card! Hold down the "down" and "right" arrow buttons and then apply power. If that does not do it, it will need to be repaired. I had Tubefex doing that, It had a bad DSP processor. It could be your memory battery went low, that would scramble things. If it comes up clean, let it stay on overnight to recharge the memory battery.
If jarring it causes "weird things" to happen, a reset may not help at all. Nothing to loose but your settings by trying. [This message was edited by Ken Fox on 04 January 2003 at 05:05 PM.] |

Ad and Ken,
Thanks.
I did the "reset" thing and it worked. I let it stay on while I left the house for about three hours and when I came home it was off but the switch was still in the "On" position. I tapped it and it came back on and I then left it on overnight.
This morning I tapped it and it went off so I must have something loose in it. That's hard to figure though because it was stored and never moved.
Ken, about the battery you mentioned. I take it this has it's own charging system if it's in the on position? Does it last longer than the one in the cache card?
If you have any ideas about what to look for that maybe loose, I'm all ears.
Jim

Jim, the internal battery is a backup for the internal programmed presets. The battery in your RAM(Cache Card 32) has a watch battery that maintains the storage of presets that are stored onto the card.
I suggest that you have a technician check and/or change out the internal battery and make sure that the circuit board is not contaminated.

Mike is right on again. Time to have this one checked out, might as well do the battery while in there. I have had them last 5 years and longer. I replaced one in my midi-streamer 3 years ago and it was starting to leak just recently! |
