Peavey Special?
Can anyone give me info on this amp? I have an opportunity to buy one for what appears to be a reasonable price. It is in good condition with a 12 inch BW speaker. It doesn't appear to be a Special 130, rather an earlier 120 watt model. Is it the same vintage as the old Bandit 65? Would it make a reasonable practice amp for steel, or is it just a six-string amp?

Well, I did it. $152.50 on ebay, plus shipping ($35.00). It is a Special 130. The guy had two of them he bought in 1981 and blew out the speaker in one in the first week and replaced it with a JBL. He gigs with the JBL and keeps the Black Widow at the rehersal space. Everything is supposed to work on this amp. I know nothing about solid state amps and only a little about tube amps. Is there anything I should do or check about this amp when it arrives?

Congratulation Aaron on your purchase. The Special and Bandit amps are sister products, ie; same preamp, different power ratings. But,if your unit is in good working condition, no maintenance is required. However, if you should need assistance, please let me assist you with your Peavey product. I can be reached here at the factory by phoning our toll free number at 1-877-732-8391.

Ok Dennis, tell me about this mod kit. I take it that it steps down the output somewhat? 15 watts all the way up hurts my ears in my living room, so I imagine over 100 watts is definitely for big rooms. The amp should arrive the first part of next week, if UPS does their job. BTW, thanks for the info and help Mike.
