I know this has probably been done many times.
I was listening to Hendrix at Monterey '67, specifically `Like A Rolling Stone` and I have to say, the first few chunky syncopated chords are some of my favourite opening bars of any tune I've ever heard. Being Live Hendrix, tuning is a bit iffy, but I love it.

Cheers, Arch.

Oh it would have to be a JH for sure. Castles Made of Sand, Rainy Day Dream Away, 1983 a Merman I Should Turn To Be, Little Wing, Gypsy Eyes, Somebody's House is Burning, Burning of the Midnight Lamp, Oh Man, they go on and on.

Then probably Hal Rugg's "Don't Come Home a Drinkin," and then Buddys C OR E on "Half a Mind"...

Then maybe Hank Thompson's 'Where is the Circus'..

I'd have to think about it some more.

Yeah, I think JH was the "intro master"..

Wait 'till tomorrow, JHE, also Up From The Skies ,and Rainy Day Dream away.
Archie, Hendrix wasn't out of tune, he tuned JH!
My Girl is another great intro, simple yet unforgetable. JP

Archie To be listening to JH on Cd is one thing , but to be there live and seeing it done was even more mind blowing. He was way ahead of everyone, Im still trying to hit those chords.

I always thought that the Hal Rugg intro (2d half) on "One's On the Way" was really cool..

What do I know? I also like the Geoge Harrison 'false harmonic feedback" and intro on the Beatles "I Feel Fine"

Good Thread..

My all-time favorite is Red Rhodes intro on Ian Matthews "Shady Lies" on the "Valley Hi" record.
I even made it the ringtone on my mobile phone.

And here it is. Volume required. Still a shame he didn't have a VS-11 tuner. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGDpBChkNIU&search=Jimi%20Hendrix

You are in the wrong area altogether- the greatest intro ever is on "Move On Up" by Curtis Mayfield.
Can anyone play it on Steel?

In the dance band I use a 15-11 98% of the time It sets the tempo and the guys say "yeah I can dance to that w/o looking like an idiot" The gals have said to me" thanks. you got him off his arse and on the floor. I was tired of setting there watching him pour down the suds". In the hawaiian band I usually have to play the entire song from the top and then the vocals take over with the gals swingin those okolis. cc

That's a hard one because there are so many steel intros. I guess John Hughey's intro to "Look At Us" and also Paul Franklin's steel intro on "Oceanfront Property" by George Strait fits in as two of my favorites. I also like Dennis Delorme's steel intro on "One Precious Love" by Prairie Oyster and Mike Johnson's steel intro on Brad Paisley's "He Didn't Have To Be" and also Paul Franklin's steel intro on Trace Adkins' "This Ain't No Thinkin' Thing".
