Hi everyone, well I've been asked to write up some biographies and notes on various pickers from the classic Bakersfield Sound era for the Rockabilly Hall Of Fame.
There's some forumites I have been in touch with who wwere involved in that scene, but if there's anyone else interested in adding their two cents could the please add a note here or contact me via the email address displayed on the my Forum contact.
First up is Ronnie Sessions and Dennis Payne, after that... well it's going to be quite a few hopefully.
Wish me luck on this one, it might take a while, but once a few things are online I'll add a link if anyone's interested.

Hi Jason:
I know you already have a great library but I saved some excellent articles from the "Bakersfield Californian" about 2-3 years ago that were part of a series about the Bakersfield Sound.... artists, songwriters, recording studios,nightclubs, etc. You might have them but in case you don't,I can photocopy them for you, if you're interested.

Thanks Gary, I appreciate it. I imagine I'll have most of them: Gene Moles, Mosrite, Merle, Roy Nichols, Red Simpson, Tally, Bonnie, Buck, Tommy Collins, etc.
My big question is, does anyone recall Larry 'Buckshot' Daniels and Larry 'Boothill' Scott who worked as deejays on KUZZ. I've had some input on both of these characters, Larry D. led the group the Buckshots which at times included Larry Petree, Dennis Payne and Doyle Holly.
Larry Scott was the sound engineer at the Blackboard, the A&R man for Mosrite and later a Hollywood deejay. Anyone got much info on him, I hear he's in Oklahome somewhere now. |

Jason: I remember both Larry's. They were excellent DJ's with a good fan following. Frank "Tombstone" Morgan was another DJ there of note. That era was when CM was "white hot".
When Daniels left KUZZ in about '67 or '68, to start a singing career, I caught his opening night in Bakersfield. His first song was "My Shoes Keep Walking back to You". Leo LeBlanc was on steel and Henry Sharpe I believe played drums.
I can't remember when Scott left KUZZ but he did move to Oklahoma (OK City) I think where he was a successful DJ. He is listed on the credits for the "Buck Owens Ranch" TV Show that was produced in OK City.

Yes, you can.
Man, the gig at Trouts should be something! I didn't know about it. It could be one of those final hurrahs of an era soon to pass us by. It would be great stuff for your book. Maybe Buck or Merle will show up. Unfortunately for me, I'll be out of town. I'm going to contact Petree to see if he'll be there. If so, I know he'll have alot to say.

| Jason, I was at Larry Petree's two weeks ago and he can tell a lot about the Bakersfield scene. I remember hearing him playing live over KUZZ in about '66 at the Blackboard and he has seen it all. He's a great guy, great player and a wealth of history. When Tom Brumley was with buck in the '60s, he and Larry would get together. I think they listened to Curly Chalker's "Big Hits on Big Steel" together when it came out in '66. Larry has worked with Buck and others around there and he and Norm Hamlett get together when Norm is off the road. Larry is also retired from the Fire Dept and can make time for you, Gary |

| Before Larry Daniels went to KUZZ, he worked at KGEN in Tulare after the John Banks program. Banks used to say in his noontime program about Daniels upcoming program, "What Time Does Old Shotnose Come On" and then he would drag out "Wanna Claaaawwwwwk. That was a classic, Gary. |
