I have heard new songs that have the same titles as some songs from the past.I don't remember any titles off hand, but I heard two this week.Is that legal? We really have a creative bunch of "writers" these days.

Yes, it's legal. It is not possible to copyright a title. (Can you imagine how many songs are entitled "I Love You" ??)

In fact, Ray Price recorded
I'll Be There (If you ever want me)
and
I'll Be There (When You Get Lonely)

totally different songs by 2 different composers.
