As far as the Charpparel Brothers go, I don't know too much about them.
John and Paul were apparently from Mississippi. I don't know which one,but I have heard that one ofthe brothers was married to an actress/model named Sheryl Poole (sp).
Bassist Don 'Buck' Felts told me :

quote:
I first worked with them when they put together their show for Lake Tahoe. Don Howard who was booking Jerry Inman some at the time also booked them. He recommended me for the
gig. After the Lake Tahoe gig I did a recording session with them for MGM Records that Al DeLory (Glen Campbell's producer) produced. I backed them up again a couple times when I was working with Butch
Hendrix at the Parrish House (in Hawthorne) in '73. They also worked the Pal a couple times when I was there.
The last I heard (several years ago) they had left the business and moved back to Mississippi, and that one of them went back to school and became a veterinarian.

Ihave also heard that in 1972 fiddler Billy Armstrong worked with them while also working solo.
Any ideas?

I worked with them a couple of times at the Cajun Country (Sherman Way at Lankershim), when I was on Jimmy Lawton's band. They were real nice guys as I recall.
We had Richard Trees on bass and either Monte Paul or Eddie Ponder on drums in that band. Good pickers.

In 1973 I worked 2 weeks with them at the Playboy Club in Los Angeles. I haven't seen them since. This is probably the only time that a steel guitar was inside the Playboy Club.
The band for not very good. For example I had been playing for only a couple of months and I almost never picked the right string. I thought that the proper way to tune a steel guitar was Bb6.
The brothers were good guys. BTW they were identical twins with an expensive rhinestone wardrobe. I ahven't seen them since then.

Thanks for the info guys, I'm trying to find out about any records they might have had out as well.
I really like the harmonies that brothers can do as well.
Hey Herb, that Eddie Ponder you mention, is that the same 'Ed Ponder' who played drums for the Flying Burrito Brothers in around 1978-79 and Sneaky Pete's 1979 solo LP cut with the FBB's of that time?
Earnest.....the Playboy club..like as in Heff?

Same Ed Ponder. He also worked with Wayne Newton and Bobbi Gentry. Still one of my dearest friends to this day. Ed is now a Special Education teacher, or has something to do with aiding learning impaired children. And his wife, Melinda, is the best!

Herb and Ray,thanks for your input.
I have been trying to track down some of Ed's other work, I knew he did more than the Burritos stint.
Ray, do you have a copy of that LP?
