Bob used high bass A major: hi to low,
E,C#, A, E, C#, A. He played either a Martin or a Mexican-made acoustic guitar with a Volutone pickup through a Volutone amp. |

Anyone buying a Volutone should be aware of some potential safety issues per the info in this thread ...

Seems they would make up great welding equipement. I've heard some people have been said to have survived 400V continuous too 
I´ve bought one once... it looked just like JB's so... I had too, now didn't I. Well, the things was fried... which probably explaines why I'm still around.
I sent it as a gift to Wayne Tanner (I owed him a favor, you know...). He thought he had somebody who would fix it... I never heard again from it..
But many who have heard JD over time told me that the best to ne he ever had was when he used that VoluTone.

Thanx Andy! And for the lead back to the old post. I hadn't seen the great info by Rbt. Braught, that was more than I could comprehend, but neccessary and inspiring! I'll have an amp tech read that and have it ready to rock(safely). If you have other thots concerning my new purchase, please advise. This one has an early Lansing instead of a Rola speaker, any info on this? And JD, I'm gonna ask Wayne about that amp! To view this lil dude on ebay- #2530829454

| There are several photos of Dunn in the late 30's playing electric lap steel through his Volutone amp with various Texas bands in the late 30's. In my research for tmy book, I finally connected with Gary Schireson of the Volutone Company. The Company is out of the music business now (does high-end sound/theatre systems today) but Gary has his family's old amps, pickups and guitars. They are wild. You had to magnetize the strings in order to use the pickups. |

That's some good researching Andy! Amazing that they are still a viable company and that you tracked down the family. I'd love to hear the VT guitar and amp together. Can't wait for the postman to bring mine!
