Pre War Rickenbacher what year ?

Is this guitar Kosher ?

Rickenbacher Electro
Pre War
Serial # C 702

Patent number on the body is 1881229
and the pickup is patent number 2089171
Metal machine heads (are these original?)
Just a volume control (no Tone control)

Thats the "real thing" ... nice one.

If the mounting plate has the patent # (as you listed) it is probably from '37 - '39 ... although most from this period had tone pots ????

If that patent # wasn't there and it said Pat. Pending ... I'd swear it was a '35 - '36.

The knob is the "old" style octagonal ...

Those are the GOOD metal tuners too .... not aftermarket.

The way they did things back then ... using parts from previous years, etc. ... it's real hard to pin down exact age ...

It's a beauty ...

Baz,

I have one just like it except it doesn't have the pickup patent number on it. Looks real. Probably was made after Aug. 10, 1937, since, according to a post on this forum, Rickenbacher began to put serial numbers on the ear tabs of the pickup. Before that it bears a PAT PEND stamp. I don't know when Rickenbacher added a tone knob to these guitars.

Could it be AFTER 1937 but have pre 37 plates on it ?

Sure ...

Major changes in prewar bakelites (neck inserts and bakelite formulation changes) didn' occur until around 1940 ... so regardless of its "date of birth" ... your lookin' at the "Top of the line" ... in terms of B6s.

Anybody know what this baby is worth
(Ive just found one)a 6 stringer

Model: EH-275 LapSteel
Available: September 1940 to 1942

September 1940 EH-275 LapSteel introduction specs:
hollow guitar shaped flame maple body, shoulder taper into neck, ES-300 type pickup mounted at a slant, 1 piece metal plate painted crinkle brown extends from peghead to pickguard (under fingerboard) covering most of lower bout, peghead is part of metal plate, wood neckpiece bolts onto back of metal plate, tortoise grain binding on top and back, rosewood fingerboard with V-end, white fingerboard binding, white and yellow block fingerboard inlays, multi-colored inlaid fret markers (some with ED-185 fingerboard and dot inlays), slotted peghead, top tuners, natural finish, available 6, 7 or 8 strings.
EH-275 discontinued 1942, about 25 shipped.

As previous posts have indicated.......sure looks "good" to me. I have several with the same identical parts. The closest mfr. date I have to yours is Ser.#C959.

Baz...the guitars are "kosher". I have a slightly more deluxe version of the double neck you showed us. However, mine has two knobs and the 3 way switch. What are those smaller knobs for on your guitar? Are they seperate neck tone controls, or what ?

The small knobs on "Olde Ugly" are indeed individual tone controls.

Page, you aked about "Mr. Blobby"......
My son's knickname for me. I gave up smoking about a year ago .... the consequence is that, as usually happens, I gained about 20 pounds in weight. The MAIN reason is that the storage space at the British Steelies Society is quite small (2mb per member) so, to get more space, I've registered twice.Once as Basil Henriques and subsequently as Mr. Blobby.
If I use the name frequently it MAY help remind me to go easy on the ¼ pounders !!
ROTFLMAO.
