Graham, I am sure the sound files much be as large or larger than a CD,
but the TAB shouldn't be that big.
If you could see your way to putting that on a CD I sure there are a number of people besides myself and Crowbear who would make that time worth your while.
I was so busy during the short time the site was back up I couldn't even look through it well let alone get a few needed files.
Also I have just added a lot of space on my ISP's server, and depending on size and the bandwidth usage you typically had, I would at least consider hosting it here.
It is a very big company with wide bandwidth, so this is possible.
Granted it IS in France, but the net is location non specific.<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 05 October 2003 at 03:42 AM.]</p></FONT>

CrowBear & David:
Thank you for the kind words. A bit of reson behind my decision, I have had my steel now for 3 years and I still can't play it. I spend more time going thru old records, cassettes etc. looking for material for the web site than I do practising. A very good friend of mine died last year. He was a major record collector of old country music. Last week, his son brought me over 100+ records of just about anybody you can name that his dad wanted me to have. You can imagine the intros etc that must be in there!
You may not believe this, but I can not play one single piece of tab on my own web site. Not good!! I therefore decided to take the site down and see if I can finally learn to play this thing. In other words, channel my time where it should be.
I will be happy to email the songlist of all titles on the site to anybody who requests it and if they need a piece of tab, will email them a text file of it. Best I can do at this time.
To all, thanks for the offers to host the site and also for the kind words shown to Ricky, Jeff and myself.

I would also like to thank you so much for your invaluable contribution to the steel guitar community for your hours and hours of work with no pay. Unfortunately, like most others, I only downloaded a few things. I am not savy as to what is involved in putting everything on a CD and offering it for sale, but I for one would be very interested. The sales of these CD's would be a way to compensate you for all the work you have poured out. Good luck to you on your pursuit of the steel.

I was very disappointed to see this invaluable resource close. As a new steel guitarist, I would spend hours a week on this site. I want to thank everyone involved with site for their time and effort.
You should know that almost every page on the web gets archived at www.webarchive.org. It's a public non-profit founded in collaboration with the Library of Congress & and The Smithsonian to create an "Internet Library."
The upshot is that you can pull up old, defunct websites, including the Rebel & Ricky tab site. The Wayback Machine allows to pull up a browseable snapshot of the site. Just enter the URL of the site you want (http://users.interlinks.net/rebel/steel/steel.html).
Their most recent snapshot of the Rebel & Ricky site is at http://web.archive.org/web/20030210115243/http://users.interlinks.net/rebel/steel/ steel.html
It doesn’t contain the audio files, but you can get to the tab. For some reason, the tablature icon isn't displaying, so you have to click in the white space next to the audio file icon to get to the tab.

Graham. I respect your decision to actually spend MORE time learning all the TAB.
That is surely the reason to have done it.
But I question the neccesity of taking down the site.
Wouldn't it be just as good to leave it in cyber space and then all your work doesn't go wasted.
And put a big disclaimer up saying.
" We are no longer updating this site.
But for all who choose to use it,
and especially download sound files,
please make a paypal donation to graham@x.com
To defray server costs. It is here as a steelers public service, but It comes out of my pocket, so if you still want it here, help keep it alive."
Seems to me this would cover all the bases. your work isn't lost, the comunity gets to see and use it, and you don't go broke... and yet,
you will have the time to woodshed tunes.
Otherwise it's just a loss for you and all others. IMHO

I don't read or use tab. But I did listen to a lot of the intros and turnarounds. It was nice to copy some of them.
From the response I have seen on this topic there is a lot of guys that want it back one way or another. Graham could, apparentley make a fair amount of money for his efforts if He allowed it on the internet or sold CD's. However, maybe there are some kind of legal reason why He cant do that......................al
