D8 Fender String Master strings

Post by Lonnie Wells »

I recently bought an old Fender D8 Stringmaster. Guitar dates back to May of 1957!
I'm thinking of C6 and E13 tuning and needing to know string gauges or good supplier of string sets.
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks, Lonnie

Cartwright's not wrong! Buy your strings from the Steel Guitar Forum.

I like the SIT string sets for my Stringmaster.

Thanks Carson, I'll get some strings ordered today. I had checked the website this morning but did not see that steel guitar shoppers link at the very top until now! I'm still trying to figure out where everything is on the new website.

What scale is it? Do you like a soft feel or a firm feel to your strings?

Here are the gauges I use:

What exact E13 tuning do you use?

Hi Tony, This guitar is a 22 1/2 scale. I been playing a 6 string Fender Champ with C6 tuning for a while now.
I've not played an 8 string so I'm looking forward to getting this old D8 set up with some new strings. Thanks for
the string suggestions. I do like a softer feel on the string gauges. I'll see if I can add a photo of the steel to this post.
thanks, Lonnie
