Youtube just deleted my account - It has now been reinstated

Post by Bill McCloskey »

That is infuriating. I had someone create an imitation account to me, including my account channel name and avatar picture, who was then posting in comment sections as if it were me. I repeatedly reported the account, spent hours on customer support, escalated it to a supervisor and finally I just changed the name and avatar of MY account.

I just received an email from youtube that my account was permanently deleted, along with all my videos for violating their terms of service. Unbelievable. I have appealed the ban but I can no longer access youtube or my account.

So sorry about this happening to you Bill.

Been there, done that, when the so called SGHOF filed 330+ copyrights against my account.
YouTube gave me 7 days to file a rebuttal on EACH video, which was absolutely impossible to do.
I appealed and appealed, but you are not dealing with what I would call real human beings with feelings.
You may talk to a person, but they are programmed like a computer and could care less.
I was generating thousands for the writers, producers and etc. I got 10's of cents, but that was not the point of my YouTube site.
I had documented, at my own expense, 35 years of the finest steel guitarists and innovators of all times, only to be wiped away by greed.

Speaking of, where is the HOF today? Hmm. However they are still taking donations for a "building". yeah right

Your loss was infinitely greater than mine Bill, but it did wipe out my original compositions on eharp and the alkire compositions I played, plus all the other eharpers and eddie alkire's stuff. That is a great loss to me.

But it is what it is. At this point I'm resigned to losing the account for good. A shame, but now I have more time to practice.

My own fault Rich. When they guy started imitating my account to get a rise out of me, I should have ignored it rather than get mad and complain. Learned my lesson

Sorry to hear that, Bill. This is why it's a good idea to store every new video you make on a flash drive before posting it anywhere. I hope you can get your work back.

I've been seeing quite many steel guitar fakes on YouTube lately.
People playing a lap steel and notes are being played without striking a string. Guitars that have no cable plugged in for those rugged outdoor beach property shots. And fishy overdubs that try to lead us to believe that harmony or counter-melody passages are being played at the same time.
People are recording tracks then miming along with the tracks to produce videos.
This is phony-baloney probably done because guys can't get through a solo without clams and must overdub.
I'm not going to call anyone out. I don't really care except for that fact that this makes for poor entertainment. I suppose other platforms are susceptible to this kind of foolery, but YouTube is especially awash in this.
Sigh of the times I suppose.

Thats good new Bill, would be interested on what was the deciding factor for them to reinstate you. Sometimes I have to re-log into my mainly because sometimes my YouTube TV gets knocked out, and even with 2 factor identification its a confusing process for me ...

Doug makes a great point about saving to flash drives ... Anytime I upload a video it's also saved on an external hard-drive.

No idea, Dale. I'd had a problem with one of the political channels where someone was mimicking my channel and avatar image, changing the channel name by one letter in order to post comments to make it look like it was coming from me. I repeatedly reported the imitation site and got nowhere. It is still up and posting as of yesterday. So I changed the name and avatar of my site and the next day, they took my site down. I explained all that when I challenged their decision and the next day, they reinstated. BTW, my stalker created a new account with my new name. At this point, I have to just laugh that the guy is so obsessed with me.

I was gonna say, what's gonna stop them from changing a letter on the new channel ... guess they did ... wonder if there's a way to block them so they don't even see your channel?

From folks are antagonistic just for the sake of being antagonistic ... Internet warriors are sickening

There is only a way to block them from posting on my channel, but that is it. They can see my comment and I can see theirs on other sites. Sick world we live in.

I haven't needed to in quite a while, but you can stop comments on your channel completely ... or you can also make it so you get to see the comment first and need approval from you before. I believe that is on the page where you actually upload your video to YouTube.

From YouTube, on the page you manage all your videos: If you think a comment is inappropriate, you can report it as spam or abuse. If you're a creator, you can also use the comment moderation tools to manage comments on your videos... you'll find 3 vertical dots to the right of your comments with these options.
