I'm sure this topic has already been hashed out before, but couldn't find it in a search... what are the options for adding a 6 string non-pedal neck to an SD10? Besides the obvious....just nailing my cheapo Rogue lap neck to my Marrs SD10
Don't want to volunteer him, but forum member Dennis Brown was building a 2DS 6 stringer that would fit on the back of an SD10 at one time. MIght give him a shout. You could just pull the pad off, if it has one, and use that space for the 6. Otherwise, it would be too high on top of the pad and interfere with playing the front neck.
I actually have one really slim 6 stringer that I use occasionally. It would fit on the rear space, but I'm playing D10s. I usually lay it in my lap.
My ultimate goal is the have a lightweight U12 like an Excel or maybe Williams where I can use it on the back.
I wouldn't mount it permanently just for weight savings, but carry it in a rifle case or something and lay it on the rear space after setting up.
You could use an A/B switching box or have a switch built in the 6 stringer intself. Good luck.
Short story; I had Jeff rebuild my Marrs SD10 last summer... such a treat to meet him and have him work on my guitar! I'll send him a message to see if he might have one of those old cat cans.
Isn't the cat can a dobro type sound (all the time)?
I believe Wally Moyers built lap type guitars for mounting on an SD10
Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) .Playing for 55 years and still counting.
Don Helms had a guitar set up with E9th neck on front, And had a 6 string lap steel set up on the back neck. So he could play all the backing licks he put on Hank Williams Sr. recordings.
If your guitar has a hole cut in the end plate for back neck tuners. Put a plate in hole, With plug in for lap steel with short cable, And a switch to change between necks. Make for easy setup and neck control.
Marrs RGS "Cat Can" may fit and be playable depending on your neck "step-up" and pad depth. The RGS dimensions are...
33.00 overall length with 24.00 scale
4.75 width
2.00 height base to top of bridge
.75 platform height
.80 neck height above platform
I have used them on some SD body PSGs, just set it on the pad as the steels weren't mine to tamper with and it was a temporary thing. Some worked and some didn't, just depends on your neck "step-up" and pad depth. Check against the measurements above. I do have an RGS but am unable to sell or ship for some time. Post-surgery restrictions. No lifting over 10 pounds, no driving, and no long car rides for a month more.
