The Sheik of Araby on my National Tricone -new video-

Post by Sebastian Müller »

Aloha friends, and yet another video:
The Sheik of Araby on my National Tricone (1931).
This is my arrangement of an iconic swing tune
that was very popular during the 30s.
The tuning I use is A Highbass (Hi to low E C#A E C# A)
Same as Dobro Tuning but one whole step up.
You'll find Tabs and Backingtracks on my website:

Hope you like it 😊!
Aloha

Aloha Sebastian!

Nice Aloha Shirt! Love those Monstera leaves.

I like your pick attack. What finger picks do you use? Are they Dunlop?

I'm pretty set on the finger picks and thumbpicks I use, but I'd like to give the ones you use a try out of sheer curiosity.
Aloha,

Mike K

Aloha Mike,

yes these are Plastic Dunlop Fingerpicks size L. They feel very clumsy in the beginning but produce a very loud and warm tone which fits the Tricone pretty well in my opinion. But if you are used to metal fingerpicks you will hate them in the beginning because they stick out quite a bit, way longer than most metal fingerpicks.

Amazing! These videos are a a great reference for learning this style. I also really liked your quick tips, I think a lot of Steelers could really benefit from advise on right and left hand technique. Slants, picking up the bar, single notes, triplets, doubles and rakes, etc. just a thought!

Thank you so much for all the kind comments, they always make my day.
The video is pretty successful, many people already watched it what makes
me especially proud because this arrangement contains a lot of my own ideas and licks
and people seem to like them :) .
Logan, doing more videos about certain playing style topics is on my mind,
comments like yours encourage me to finally produce them.
Please post all the topics you guys would be interested in, that would
be really helpful for me.

Aloha

I really enjoyed that. Impeccable picking and bar work, and inventive ideas. Plus, the Tri-cone sounds fabulous.
A 10!
