We were fortunate to have the Legendary Mike Brown come out and join us for a couple of shows at Stagecoach Saloon in Ocean Springs, MS. Mike as many of you know was with Peavey for over 30 years and served no only the Steel Guitar industry but other professional acts. Mike has always been a friend to Steel players and has helped me personally over the years. It was an honor to have him join us. I just go a little nervous lol!

When I went to the ISGC in St. Louis in 2003, Mike Brown was still working with Peavey at the time, and was seen a lot with Bud Carter, John Fabian, Ann Fabian, and Billy Phelps, and the Saturday night I was at the ISGC, I couldn't really stay in one place because I wanted to check out the steel guitars in the lobby at the Millennium Hotel, so while walking around, I came to the Carter Steel Guitars Booth, and John Fabian asked me if I'd like to play on a Carter steel, so I said yes. A few minutes after I'd played with whatever rhythm track they were using, a man was standing over my shoulder and it was Mike Brown, who had watched me while I was playing. So, he comes over to the steel I'm sitting behind and says, "Brett, I want to show you how to play some chords", then tells me what the chords are, but I can't remember now what chords he showed me, but I actually played them for a little while. I think my Peavey Nashville 112 amplifier was made when Mike was still working with Peavey.

Mike Brown, the go to man at Peavy, always there to help in a way that nobody could ask for better, helped me on several occasions, thanks Mike.

I had talked a couple times with Mike. He was the best feature of Peavey. Sad to lose his expertise at Peavey.

Little story about Mike. Of course we all know he was a steel player besides the Peavey position and always willing to help us with info. We all miss him playing with us here.

One year at the ISGC late in the evening, after a couple days wandering, walking around trying to take in the show and the displays, everything, little sleep ...I was just worn out, taking a break sitting on one of the plush chairs there in the lobby when Mike happened to walk by. We nodded as he passed then he came back to ask me if I was OK he was concerned I might be having issues looking so spent. I told me I was allright, just tired...and he went on his way.

I've never forgotten his concern. He didn't know me from Adam, but it was just the kindness and humanity in him that spurred his action. I'm sure he would have and probably has done the same kind of thing for many people besides me.
