Jeff, bars with a flat spot (sometimes called a "sitar bar") were a known thing in the '60s and '70s, when that instrument sound was used frequently in rock and pop music. However, I discounted that because the 5th string sounds unaffected. Hard to say with 100% certainty without having first-hand knowledge, but that was my best deduction from the sound of the recording.

Sounds like west coast country rock sound to me. Very common in the 70's

Sounded good to me. Had a cool vintage vibe to it and you can hear a distinct musical personality. Music is about communicating.
