Thanks for that Diane, Doyle is one of my favorites, so impressive that he is still touring at 80. As I posted in another thread recently, his playing on early Jimmy Buffett records was my first introduction to the love of steel guitar!
Regards, Craig

Great to see that piece posted about Doyle. He sure has stood the test of time. A great guy and player.
I spoke to Doyle a few years back and he was telling me of the "dream" gig with Buffet. He was telling me how the crew picks up his gear at his house for the road / flight gigs and then drops it back off after the tour. Pretty darn cool..!! Our mutual friend, Stan Savage from Maine had given me Doyle's phone number.
Like Joe said, it was cool to see the reference to Linebaugh's on Lower Broadway. It and Demon's Den were staples of Broadway back when.
Thanks for posting this Diane.

I can vouch for at least 90 percent of what Doyle said about his youth. I was 12 taking guitar lessons on the same day he was. Trouble is he learned it better than me. Doyle and I started playing together at the VA Hospital in Temple,Tx for the WW2 and Korea and even some WW1 vets on Sunday afternoons when he as 15 and I was sixteen. We wound up in the same local band in 1959. until about July of 1961.
Doyle is a life long friend, a great person and great musician on whatever he is playing. Nice article. Thanks for posting that.

Not sure if he's using any effects, but I do know he's probably playing an Emmons guitar.Michael A. Any help out there ?

He’s definitely using a chorus, the best bet is an old CE-300 rack mount.Michael A. Fisher wrote:I would like to know what his rig consisted of when he played on those Randy Travis sessions, especially effects pedals, if any. I just love that sound, 1982 in particular. Any help out there ?

Doyle told me, "We did a live show with him out at Opryland. They used studio players on that, and that’s the only live show I ever played with him." It was the TNN special, "Hank Williams Jr. and Friends," filmed February 20, 1986, at the Grand Ole Opry House.
