Hank Thompson's Steel player (Or players)

Post by Tyler Friedman »

Who were the Steel players on Hank Thompson's albums from '55-'68? I really Dig that particular style of Honky Tonk/Country Dancehall music, but don't know much about Hanks musicians. Any info is welcome. Thanks! - Tyler

I'm not sure of the era, but Bobby Garrett played no pedal steels with Hank sometime in the early years and it was good!

Oklahoma Hills was Bobby, so perhaps other tunes from that era were also Bobby.

A lot of Hank’s recordings featured curly chalker on steel guitar.

But I 2nd Jerry. Late 50s early 60s, Bobby Garrett. My favorite of that era “Live at golden nugget” ca 1961 Bobby Garrett, red Hayes, bob white, Merle Travis, Billy Stewart, dubert Dobson …some say finest brazos valley boys live session ever. Bobby Garrett was all over it. Top notch playing. Straight steel.
