Why, No New Squareneck Parlor Builds?

Post by Terry VunCannon »

I love these parlor size square necks. Are there any builders building these now?

Because there are three billion Oahus and Bronsons going for far, far less than they could be sold new today.

The closest you'll find in a new instrument is probably a Weissenborn type, because the originals sell for a lot more.

There are a few tenor weissenborns out there, short scale.

Yeah, and some great weissenborns, I have some. Just wondering about a square neck, smaller.

Hermann guitars makes a tenor Weiss. Lazy River did too. I think they’d be a bit more toneful

Ben Bonham built me a pair of parlor twins, one acoustic, one archtop electric, redwood+maple+ebony. I couldn't be happier with them...not cheap, but quite lovely in every way,..
Ben is happy to chat and give advice about instruments...and you should check out his website just to oogle the eye candy.. www.bonhamdesign.com

Here's a 000 sized square neck I built a couple of years ago. Picture of Sol inlaid/engraved on the peghead and banjo style engraved inlays on the fingerboard...

Made of Curly Ovangkol with a Sitka top. Peghead inlay is white, gold and black mother of pearl. It was a fun project and it's a good player.
