Steel Player on Ringo's new record

Post by Craig Stock »

T-Bone Burnett has written songs for a new record by Ringo.

Just curious who is playing steel on it, if any.

Here's an article about it

I was wondering about that.. The steel playing is first class of course, and I knew it was somebody in the elite ranks of steel players. I kind of liked the songs I have heard from the album so far. Its actually a lot closer to "classic' country music than just about anything you hear on "country" radio these days.Ringo doesn't have a great voice but hey neither did Ernest Tubb and he was a big country star for decades. I like it, and hope it gets some airplay.
I'm over the hill and hittin'rocks on the way down!

no gear list for me.. you don't have the time......

Ringo has always been the country enthusiast of the 4. He sang on The Beatles cover of Buck Owens "Act Naturally" and wrote "What Goes On" and "Don't Pass Me By" which had a definite country-rock vibe. Pete Drake played steel on and produced his 1970 album Beaucoups of Blues. George Harrison introduced Ringo to Pete Drake when he was recording All Things Must Pass.

It's awesome that he decided to do another country project when it was first announced I was tentatively excited. It's doubly awesome that Paul Franklin is playing on it. That solo on "Time on My Hands" needs to be transcribed it's great.

The rockers want their country to sound like country and the country artists want to be pop stars so the "country" ends up sounding like pop.
Ringo's voice really hasn't aged that much. He's in his mid 80s it's very impressive to have that kind of consistency at that age.
Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous; praise is meet for the upright. Give praise to the Lord with the harp, chant unto Him with the ten-stringed psaltery. Sing unto Him a new song, chant well unto Him with jubilation. For the word of the Lord is true, and all His works are in faithfulness. The Lord loveth mercy and judgement; the earth is full of the mercy of the Lord.

Thanks for the replies and info!, it comes out on Jan 10th, and here's the song 'Time on my Hands', with great playing by Mr. Franklin!

You can tell that Ringo likes steel, it's great that he or T-Bone let him stretch out a bit on this song.

After bunch of listens, I think this song is great and Paul shares as much time as Ringo playing, maybe even more!

Thanks, Paul for such a great performance, looking forward to the full release on the 10th!

Now that sounds like country music! And the steel encapsulates the stuff I love most about pedal steel. First class - of course how could it not be?

Looks like Steely Dan has ANOTHER reason to write a song about a Beatle in a white stetson hat! :-)

Hopefully, the new song is a little more complementary!

Hello Joachim!

Yes, I am. Great guess. You know your music history, for sure!

And as I said, if they (Steely Dan AKA Donald Fagen) does write another song about song of the Beatles, I just hope it is more complementary. :-)
