Kluson Tuning Tray Routing

Does anyone have the specifics on routing for the 8 string Kluson Tuning Machine Tray with the matching tuners? I'm sketching a plan up and can't find the specific dimensions of the cavity anywhere, and if I recall there's not a lot of space to go wide on the sides without it showing. Thanks!

I didn't use a router, I drill holes in the 4 corners and a recip saw to cut out the waste. Then I slowly expended it to where it would fit. There is very little wiggle room, maybe a millimeter on each side if that. Otherwise the plate won't fully cover the opening. And it has to sit in the right place obviously. This was very tricky! Here are the final dimensions. 75mm X 85 X 105 the 3/8" holes were drilled in 5mm from the edges of these dimensions to form the corners. I plan on making a router template based on these dimensions for the next one.

Yes this is helpful, I did use this. My first try was way too conservative, and I had to do a lot of trial and error fitting as I took out small amounts of materiel. It doesn't show you a cutout and the real issue is getting it to fit with the tuners installed. The dimensions I posted should get you very close.

I would recommend making a trial and error template first. It could even be cardboard.

Absolutely!!!

I have another thought. Most of the clearance you need is on the sides obviously. I think you could trace the outer edge of the pan and go in about 1.5mm from the sides and then for the top and bottom go in just far enough to leave some meat for the screws to bite into. When I did this it wasn't sitting in quite the right spot so I had to glue a little materiel back in to give the bottom screws enough to grab. It is hidden by the pan so no matter, but it was really frustrating for a minute. The dimensions I posted were the final dimensions after all the trial and error.
