Leg placement – console steel

Post by Per Berner »

Hi! I have yet to decide the leg configuration for my 3-legged 8-string lap/console steel build. Which of these leg socket layouts would you guys recommend? (In example B, obviously the middle leg is facing forward) I'm guessing A might be a bit more stable, but it leaves less room for a convenienty placed rear access control cavity.

My gut feeling is option A
Also I think looks better and balanced.
On further thought
Option B would not be very resistant to pressure on the body away from the axis and would want to twist and possibly lift the leg under the neck.

On the guitar I am currently building, I chose the B option. My take on it is that the wide spacing makes it more stable.
