Hey all,

I'm really happy to share Episode 3 of the Steel Guitar Podcast which features Steve Fishell a.k.a. "Fish" on the forum Smile

Steve gives a great rundown of his steel guitar journey, from his start in the California country rock scene, to playing in the Hot Band with Emmylou Harris & Frank Reckard, and lots more. We also spend a bit of time chatting about his biography of Buddy, "Buddy Emmons: Steel Guitar Icon". I read it twice in the lead-up to the interview and loved it both times. It's quite deep, personal, and sometimes pretty dark. I appreciated getting a deeper look at Buddy's musical and technical genius, and who he was as a person.

You can listen to the podcast on the Fretboard Journal website or wherever you listen to podcasts.

Hopefully this interview is a great excuse for some of you to check out the Buddy book and dig into Emmylou's amazing 80s albums.

Thanks!

Half way through and savoring every minute of it - thanks, Matt! This will go a long way to helping Fish repair his reputation as a notoriously difficult subject. Wink

I listened to this today. Highly recommended! You gotta love Steve - great guy, great player, fine author and very articulate.

It was about nine years ago that Emmylou & Rodney Crowell were on tour and we attended the show at The Luther Burbank Center here in Santa Rosa. The opener was Richard Thompson who joined Emmy and Rodney for a few songs.

Steve was on pedal steel and dobro, it was the first time I had seen him play live since the Hot Band days in the 1980s.

After the concert we were able to hang for a bit with Steve and his lovely wife Tracy. They were very cordial and we had a nice visit. Wonderful folks!

Thank you Matt, I very much enjoyed listening to that. Steve has always been one of my favorites. I was very excited to visit with him on a couple of occasions. He seems like a fine human.

I finally had the chance to listen to it and enjoyed it very much. Steve is one of my favorite steel players and I loved to hear more about his background. Great to hear him speak about the Buddy Emmons tribute cd and the book, which i both love very much ,Thanks.
